I don't know that I believe Reinsdorf did enough to stop the animosity early on, but he seems to have at least tried to get Krause to cool his shit.

I'm glad that Jerry set the record straight. Not sure why he remained silent for so long.

Yes, THAT'S why he broke up the dynasty. He went to a fortuneteller and then had Krause tell Jackson that he could go 82-0 and then go away.

Uncle Jerry explained his role well. He tried to be the peacemaker AGAIN, but Phil wanted to walk away.

And Phil walked away because "It wouldn't be fair to Jerry Krause and it would put him in a terrible position". Do you believe that too?

Not sure how accurate that is in regards to Phil. Wasn't his only GM job with the Knicks and he treated that like a part time gig/retirement check, right?

Your feelings for Uncle Jerry are similar to what I think about Phil. He's an absolute weasel. He did a number on Scottie and Jordan.

He's your fucking uncle, not mine. They're all weasley. So what? The head weasel running the weasel show should have run the weasel show to the bitter end. He.Did.Not.Want.To.Pay. When he forked over the dough he owed Jordan for building him his stadium and making him rich beyond his dreams, he told him that to his face.

I also found that to be an odd detail. Sure, MJ wants his own pizza.

Can't they grab a couple extra pies, you know, for the effort, for the guys - just in case they want a couple slices?

They all just sat around and watched MJ eat an entire pizza at Midnight?

I wonder if it was actually one of MJ's guys who poisoned the pizza just to get even with him.

Tim Grover seems like a shifty guy.

Did the Jerry’s consider an extension a renegotiation? If pippen was owed 3 million for 2 years and market value for him is 10 million. Why didn’t they offer a 4 year 26 million dollar deal? Or even shave a few mil off of that because they are the Jerry’s.

The bulls still capitalize on the cost savings of the terrible deal and get to keep pippen locked up. You don’t actually have to let him become a free agent before working a new deal.

I thought I heard this morning that he was "pissed" at the guys because they ate earlier without him. That's why he only ordered one pizza and spit on it.

He really did spit on it?

Maybe he was challenging the guys on how much they wanted it.

He'd never ask anyone to eat a pizza he spit on if the didn't eat a pizza he spit on himself.

Caught a minute or two of Mike Greenberg this morning talking about this and he said, in all his time, including on the Bulls beat, he had never heard the food poisoning story.

I've never been an "insider" but I thought it was pretty common knowledge as a theory.

Allegedly Jordan did that frequently when he didn't want to share.

It was a stupid hill to die on when this seems to have been a good option.

Mike Greenberg is full of shit. This has been out there for years. Here is a wire story from 1998.

Quote:
"Last year, the fifth game here, I don't think you could top that performance he had in that game," said Chicago coach Phil Jackson, referring to Jordan's game-saving effort here when he was recovering from food poisoning. "I think he topped it. I think it was the best Michael performance ever in a critical game."

They couldn't renegotiate his contract per the 1995 CBA deal the players signed.

It's interesting that Jordan didn't seem all that opposed to playing with Shawn Kemp when the Kemp for Pippen rumors were out there. I'd have thought with all of the success he'd have fought more for Pippen to stay.

At that time it would have been a helluva move. Kemp at that time was a beast.

People remember him more for the kids and the drugs but at that time all of that wasn't effecting him much. I just found it interesting that Jordan didn't try a "trade Scottie and I am retiring move". He seemed open to making the trade.

I had his shoes. I remember him for his dunks, scoring and highlight blocks. Don't think he was a great compliment for Jordan. They would have needed to do some more rebuilding. After the lockout the Rain Man's career dried up because he couldn't stop eating.

They wanted him for the 97-98 season though. He was Seattle's best player when he was on top of his game.

Don't know about the Jordan fit either but I just found it odd that he was open to trading for him.

Kemp would have fit in if no scottie. it would take them time to gel but a short season not sure that would have been enough time.

but you got to remember, if MJ, Phil came back one more time and wanted someone to replace scottie, there would be tons of players wanting a chance to play with MJ for a title.

And Steve Kerr would have stayed that year. He went to SA instead and got another ring but SA w/o Kerr that year not sure if they get into the Finals. Maybe Portland or Lakers.

I think the Kemp for Pippen trade almost happened in 94 and I think again in 97. Jordan said that if the 94 trade goes through he probably would not have come back.

I found that curious as well, but, hey, who is going to fuck with the King's Pizza?

Also, adults really don't get "stomach flu"/gastroeneritis like you did when you were a kid, in terms of both frequency and severity, so I totally support the idea that he got food poisoning.

Not sure how they could have done it intentionally, though - like, I find it hard to believe they just had a jar of E.Coli laying around at the pizza parlor. A sick thought is that they could have contaminated it with their own fecal matter, but I would think that he would have tasted or smelled something funny.
