It's nice when private business can blame the Governor for closing. Their shitty lease is the issue not the virus.

I call bullshit on the excuse. They were almost out of business around Christmas and got a lease extension then.

The one across from Oakbrook Mall is still there. I went there once, for a 90th birthday party. It was ok, nothing special. My mom used to be on planning and zoning, and told a funny story about Ditka coming to ask for a parking variance or some such thing. She said he looked like Rudolph.

The one in Pittsburgh is near the airport, nowhere near the city. Totally aimed at out of town business travellers.

I went to the original one and it could've been a mid rate steak chain or The Cheesecake Factory as far as I was concerned.

And I'm sure you kept a real open mind and gave it a completely unbiased review.

I wasn't buying, I was only out the time and effort for a meh early evening meal. It was less appetizing than say Ruth's Chris. Hell, I've been to dozens of places that I didn't particularly care for the owner and had far better meals.

Far better.

Father in law took us took us to the Oak brook one once when we visited, preferred It over the other places we’ve gone in the area.

I went there about 10 years ago. Ditka was there at a table with friends. I recall the Frank Sinatra impersonator that sings the National Anthem at Cubs games was entertaining.

Anyway, the food was above average and you could smoke cigars at the time. And while I have zero interest in sniffing Ditka’s jock, I’ll give him credit for physically standing up and taking a photo with literally anyone that asked. Maybe 25 times.

I went to the Chestnut street location once many years ago. I thought it was really really good. I had the Pork chop. A friend of mine had the pot roast sammich. I heard more examples than I can count of Ditka being there and taking pictures...ya know....being human.

I'm not a fan of his. I think he's a complete ass his coaching legacy is highly overrated. My one experience at the restaurant was good and I'd go there again. To say it's overpriced and the like.....90% of Chicago restaurants are overpriced. I won't lose any sleep over it closing, but I would eat at the Oakbrook location if the opportunity presented itself.

Funny....I've actually never eaten at Ruth's Criss so I cannot compare  Maybe Silvy will use this is a chance promote Chicago Cut

I realize Ruth's Chris is not close to being the best steak house in Chicago but bad?

I'd say R.C. is the best steak I've had in Chicago.

I have been a couple times here and thought it was good. Never bothered with Ditka's because as was mentioned it is way out by the airport.

We posted at the same time. I thought it was real good. I also liked Smith and Wolensky. My only regret so far is I have not yet tried for myself Gibson's or Gene and Georgetti for the reputation, history and experience. In Tinley used to go to a place called Bogart's closed now. Then there also used to be a good place in SE burbs called Chez Paul or something? They made a second place in Mokena.

My mom likes that new place near Palos 95th and 294. Krapil's?

Im a huge fan of Krapils. Very good steak. They also have an appetizer called sirloin bites or cubes.. Fantastic as well. That's the place to go when things open up, huge outdoor patio and walkup bar thats basically outdoors when they open up the glass doors.

Agreed. Best beer garden/patio in the area by far.
