Is that really funny? Yeah, it's just about a desire to eat at Applebee's. How could anyone think something so dumb?

The same dopes who have been posting STAY THE FUCK HOME for two months are now posting photos of their favorite businesses that are permanently closed with the caption SO SAD. As if there was no connection.

It's the newest condescension and deflection. "This isn't about trampling peoples' liberty and freedom, it's about selfish pricks who want 2 for 1s at happy hour."

Last grasp shots at trying to make people feel guilty. Very pathetic.

There are ways to keep food warm for more than 5 minutes as to not require reheating of it when you get home. How do you think pizza delivery works?

why hasn't someone come up with an effective way to keep fries hot & crispy for longer than 5 minutes ?

I love my place Chuck's but i stopped getting them after awhile bc they just dump them in the plastic clamshell container like a lot of others so after 30 seconds they steam and become mush.

Toaster oven can work wonders for "re-crisping" fries.

Certain mexican dishes can as well. Fried chicken also works for a time.

Should I have said "It's about being able to walk around Best Buy for an hour and walk out with your PS4 games instead of just buying it on line and picking it up in front of the store?

Honestly. Other than restaurant business (and that's a bigger discussion of why we are having a national meltdown over not being able to eat out) what is truly and genuinely closed?

I was thinking the other day about how much styrofoam is being dumped into the planet right now. These numbers must be through the roof. It's a shame that Spanky wants to destroy the economy and the planet at the same time.

Most foods do just fine. They may need to be wrapped in foil or have a better storage solution than the plastic ones.

Also, it helps to get one of those insulated cold/hot bags.

True. The growing issue actually is going to be people who are at risk but have an essential job that cannot be done remotely.

This is exactly the case. Essential job, can't work from home. But Young Buck got crunk at a Wisco bar.

Plastic too. Reusable straws and pre-set silverware on tables is GONE for at least the next year or two.

Stores are also not allowing you to bring your own bags anymore. If that is the case, Chicago should not be charging a bag tax.

Agreed.

Disagree. Religion has a huge component called community. It's tribal like everything else. It can be a place where people's serotonin gets a boost. They would call it spirituality.

It's pretty simple.

Most people aren't upset that they can't go sit down and eat in a restaurant. They're worried about the precedent it sets that government is able to tell privately owned businesses that they are not allowed to open until THEY say so.

I used to think BRick was smarter than this. Now I'm not so sure.

This was the same point I was making with billypootons over wearing a mask.

Let's be fair here, the entertainment business is what is hurting. And to put it in perspective, I have friends who run entertainment venues, and a couple who own them, who have had zero income other than that paltry $1200 bucks back in April since mid March. Those friends, one of whom may never reopen, are the ones I think about. Not that I can't go sit in a bar for an hour. Not that I can't get a haircut. Not that I can't go meander around a mall. Those are the people we need to reopen the economy for. Should there be precautions taken? Sure. Should a contractor friend of mine that lost her assignment due to a shutdown and doesn't qualify for UE because she's a contractor, and has spent her life working her ass off to live debt free have to run up thousands in credit card debt for a virus with a 98% recovery rate?

I'm lucky enough to have been able to work from home during this. That doesn't mean I can't empathize with my friends who haven't, and aren't making more on UE than they were while working.

And before one of you dopey socialist loving liberals come in here with the "anyone who wants to work can" bullshit, a business owner friend of mine was rejected by Wal Mart, Target, Marianos, Jewel, and Meijer up here because they knew he'd leave as soon as he could open his business back up.

First it was about saving old people. Then it was the fear tactic used in Chicago of "everyone is going to die on a ventilator". Now there are so many people that are so sucked in that they are afraid of their own shadow. Now its a governor that is trying to turn Illinois into a police state. I'm waiting for that dickhead to try to announce he's going to have cops at every border crossing in the state to keep people in.

And there's a lot of misunderstanding about what's "essential". You sure don't want the guy working on the vaccine to STAY THE FUCK HOME. But where does the money he gets to work on that vaccine come from? The government. Where does the government get it? From taxes paid by places like Applebee's that you mock people for liking.

It's a giant ripple that will eventually hit everybody. I agree with Rick that scared people weren't going to spend the way they were anyway, but it was as important to mitigate this destruction as it was to mitigate the virus. Nobody thought about that and the world will pay the price.

3 major billion dollar sports leagues. Schools and daycare which forces some home from work even if they were "essential". Leisure activities, camping, boating and general vacationing. The hotel industry. Most of this affects hourly part time workers too like hairdressers, barbers, and hour store employees who were deemed nonessential. The wedding and funeral industries. The dressmaker who didn't get prom orders. The tux rentals who didn't get a huge chunk of their businesses from weddings and proms. Not to mention even if you're essential, like my business, many customers are canceling service plans and scheduled maintenance due to the virus causing layoffs furloughs and lost business. Thats just some off the top of my head.
