Very detailed. It put in perspective soft power and sharp power. As days go by, I learn just how many really good options there are to stick it up their ass. I'm much more optimistic that they can't just roll over on us.

Odd how they only found blame in Carter, Clinton and Obama administrations for the embrace and normalization of relations with China but ignore any republican president' s dealings with China, beginning most notably with their guy Nixon.

And it's utterly ridiculous that these guys sound the alarm bells about deceit, denial and deflection, especially how two of them were front and center for Iran Contra. And creating the mountain of debt that they lied about.

More tea party bullshit.

You know, Reader, that's fine and dandy, but there's a whole continent we have ignored while China is raping it. At LEAST THAT should concern you. But I s'pose you are of the mindset we'd rape Africa harder.
It saddens me to read your American nihilist stuff. There are dozens of countries worse than we are and China is 100x times worse. These fuckers are blatant racists picking countries clean over there while partying and counting money in their segregated gated communities.

You'd think that the first thing to do would be to subsidize or reenergize businesses in the areas where our recent shortages were exposed. Frankly I will be more wary of buying any products made in southeast Asia if there is almost any kind of alternative.

Who said that it didn't concern me? As a matter of fact I don't sincerely think that I've posted a positive word about communist China here, primarily because I don't have many. If any.

And please don't pass along the the tired garbage floating around about supporting the prc if you read or listen to certain outlets.

I think the most important sentence in the entire article is this: "In the years leading up to WWII, strong business relationships with Germany and Japan partly prevented the free countries of the West from acting decisively to forestall German and Japanese aggression; public sentiment to avoid future wars held sway."

International trade was less important than domestic politics and economics. Western Europe had no appetite for another confrontation post World War 1.

I don't think the American public has the appetite for war now. And I don't blame the public for that. Our leaders have dragged us into so many unnecessary confrontations post-WWII that we can no longer recognize real existential threats.

So what, the USA will just take these things back and repatriate them to Tanzania and Kenya? That's this guy's plan?

China doesn't care. First off, they'll play the same corrupt games they played to get those ports built in the first place and more often than not they'll succeed in keeping them. And so what, they lose Beira or the TAZARA...big deal. That represents a percent of a percent of their worldwide holdings. The real prizes are the DRC and Angola, and China will not part ways with them easy. The DRC government basically only exists in Kinshasa and Goma, the rest of the country is the wild west.

Eventually you have to pick, there is an ultimatum. You can either wallow around complaining about Trump, who yeah is a retarded man baby child unfit for office. You're not wrong. The guy is a disgrace, an enabler and appeaser of the worst kind.

But he's better than communist China, and if you cant stomach any discussion of the mortal danger the world is under from the PRC because it distracts from your Trump angst that's not good. That's something you've got to remedy, because it is exactly the pathology that China is relying on to continue its rise unabated.

You have to understand that China's plan for you is the same plan they have for the Uyghurs: domination, slavery, extinction. That goes for anyone, anywhere who isn't Han Chinese.

I'm not at this point yet but there are many ex-military and contractors who I work with who would enlist in the ADF tomorrow if they opened up to foreigners. Nobody has any purpose any more, nothing bigger than themselves to believe in. The church is dead, America is a disgrace, the family unit is torn to shreds...and now its a generation with nothing to lose.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, well, we won't get fooled again.

Credibility doesn't exist in that bunch. And it's odd that a guy who cries as loudly around here about the lack of confidence everyone should have in the intel community is so passionate about the words of two proven corrupt intelligence warhorses.

It depends on the war. If it's proven that China created this I think the public would support a war. The issue China has nukes. So it's not a war like World War 2. It's a war that could end human civilization. In that sense there is a reason not to want a war.

There has to be a confrontation though and at least a Cold War. This is worse than 9/11, and China is responsible.

You can scoff at their solutions but the facts on the ground throughout the world aren't a secret. When I have read them from a variety of people over the years, yeah, I tend to consider the preponderance of evidence. Then, I'll listen to solutions. If Greta Thunberg has something that makes sense, I'll listen. I don't give a shit. I'm pragmatic.

But I cannot stomach the slanted drivel they shoveled to get to their "solutions". And I'm not close to considering war with China as a rational response. We're going to have to squeeze them out of our economy, starting with barring their students from studying here. And buying from places other than Asia, outside of South Korea and Japan.

Conversely, I lost all respect for liberals like Ed Shultz and Thom Hartmann when they were on the RT payroll and were out defending all things Russia, including Jill Stein. And vocally supporting Sanders people in sitting out the 11/16 election.

Other than blockading them and forcing them to shut off from the rest of the world its the only rational response. Any other option is appeasement.

Ed Schultz was pushed out at MSNBC for covering the Sanders campaign. Blind support to a party does not make you a good liberal or vice versa.

At the end, Ed Shultz admitted that he felt ethically compromised by working for RT, but that he felt he had to suck it up to get the health insurance his employer provided that his late cancer stricken wife desperately needed.

If the Government finds that it was an act of Bioterrorism on the part of China then they have an obligation to go to war with them. If the Government makes the determination that it is an act of Bioterrorism they'd better be certain of it however There can't be a repeat of Iraq and WMBs. War with China is an altogether different animal.

doesn't make sense to unleash a virus with a 99.8% survival rate and an average age of fatal cases right in line with life expectancy. they could not have been cunning enough to know we'd destroy our society over it.

it may have escaped from a lab. they certainly covered up loads of information about it (and still do), but conscious attack? very unlikely, I would say almost impossible. the Chinese are evil and amoral but they aren't stupid. stupid is what our administration is. honestly, if America has a National Virtue in 2020 its very certain that stupidity would be the most apt candidate.

Because businesses want to make as much money as possible and Americans want to spend as little money as possible.

Until you change American culture, nothing will happen with China.

It's only going to be stopped by going to war with them. Sanctions aren't going to do it. Aligning with other nations against them diplomatically will not accomplish it either.

I remember when members of the investment class began to raise red flags as Chinese companies were getting listed on the NYSE. I even agreed with their concerns, until it was clear that their profit was being put above their previous concerns.

And when he mentioned that, he regained all of my respect. As if that mattered

Because you're rational.

They've caused a lot of damage in the world, and not just recently. And just keep skipping along merrily. That has to stop.

It's only going to be stopped by going to war with them. Sanctions aren't going to do it. Aligning with other nations against them diplomatically will not accomplish it either.

But I cannot accept sending my sons to that fight vs my paying more for American made Nikes and smartphones.

Yeah China is a threat, but mostly to their own people more than anyone. In modern history they have attempted to control the Pacific Rim/Region but that's about it. They really haven't been exporters of world conflict as much as they have attempted to maintain hegemony over their part of the world.

Personally I'm not in favor of going to war with them but if it is discovered that they unleashed the Coronavirus on the rest of the world, then they leave the U.S. no choice but to war with them IMO.

I can see a scenario where our Govt has conclusive evidence regarding their complicity, yet still decides to cover it up for the sake of avoiding war.

It's been suggested African nation seize their assets back under the protection of the United States. Imperial China has billions locked up in Africa.
