And the 05 clinching game vs. Detroit is on NBCSN. It's a time warp tonight.

Definitely Eddie Jones. Rose was a loser.

That’s a trash opinion. Jones was garbage. Rose came to play when it matters. If Bird trusts him more we’re in trouble in 97-98

Eddie Jones. You match him with Jordan and you have something more than Harper, but a bit less than Pippen.

Jalen Rose's no defense playin' ass wouldn't have lasted a year on MJ's Bulls.

I don't remember Jones playing D.. Just knocking down shots..kinda like Rose..probably a slightly better 3 point game than Rose though.

My memory of Jones is kinda hazy, but I believe that he was a competent defender. Jalen Rose was justified a guy who wanted to score and was a team loser.

Eddie Jones was an elite defender and competent scorer. I believe his career high was 20 or 21 ppg when he got traded away from LA to make room for Kobe. Jalen was the better scorer and maybe the better playmaker but that's it. Jones is the better player.

Jalen could play multiple positions. He had a post-up game. Nice post-up fade too.

Jalen also was clutch and Eddie Jones loved meaningless buckets. In my memory it’s clear Jalen was the better player

FavreFan is 100 percent correct. Saying Eddie Jones means the Pacers win in 98 is ridiculous. Rose was a better player.

One player has a similarity score for role players and the other has a score for all stars to HoF players.

Well he's generally regarded as a turnstile and Kobe's game is indicative of that. Kobe is a great scorer but he's not the first - plenty of people can put the ball in the bucket, but no one in however many years put up as much as Kobe did. Not the 7 foot Shaq who in his prime could dunk on Godzilla at will, not Hakeem, not Jordan, not LBJ, etc. It's still basketball man - just because you can score doesn't mean putting up 81 is still conceivable. Especially when you're average height for the NBA (6'6 isn't anything special). Why can Bruce Bowen or Shane Battier hound Kobe into 9-31 shooting nights for 37 points while 6-8 Jalen Rose gets 81 dropped on his head? Because he sucks and never tried hard on defense.

My bias here in case it isn't obvious is defense. If you don't try hard on D then I don't give a shit about you. Rose was in that category for me. No value add if you can score 21 in a breeze but your guy hits you up for 25 on 70% shooting.

Stop that nonsense. 81 all on Jalen? We say that because Jalen is on ESPN. Lazy narrative. Nobody remembers the other players on the 27-55 Toronto Raptors. Watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9NILK4OXpo

P.S. Kobe put up 45 against Battier that same year and Battier fouled out

Kobe put up 50 against Iguodala shooting 66% a few weeks prior to his 81 performance.

 Are you digging into 2006 regular season box scores? That's genuinely awesome.

Look, we started this discussion about Jones vs Rose and I told y'all that Jones was the more complete players. Regular and advanced stats show that.
.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/pl ... r__players

No question Jones is the better player and the better building block, to me.

I'm actually going to be more charitable than others about rose here. When he was Indiana he was an x factor. He had a skill set no one else on that team had. Because the team filled with veteran players who mostly played defense Rose's considerable deficiencies were covered up. Put Jones on that team over Rose and they beat the bulls in 98

Damn Vegan. I’ve tried my best but I still can’t help you. You can give a man a basketball reference sheet and show him stats for a day, or you can show a man how to watch basketball and let him make his own valid judgements on players for life. You’ve never stopped the box score scouting. This isn’t baseball. You can’t quantify every player by a list of all time VORP or BPM or PER ya fucking knucklehead.

One day you’ll learn.

You’re like 5 years older than me and I remember the late 90’s very well. Jones was trash, always was trash, always will be trash. One of the most overrated players of my youth. I can’t trust the basketball opinion of a man who calls Jalen Rose a loser but has nice things to say about Eddie Jones.

Then you should remember 3 time ALL STAR Eddie Jones and that he blocked Kobe from getting on the court. Every team that had Rose dumped him because they all knew that he was essentially Ron Mercer. The advanced stats, the stats and the accolades show it. One of his comps is DJ Augustine. Let that sink in.

Much ado about two guys who were slightly above average players offensively and only Jones could guard anyone at all. I remember these guys and neither of them was a star whatsoever. Rose couldn't guard anyone and on every team he was on he never guarded anyone. He played off his man and tried to poach the passing lanes in order to try for cheap baskets.

He blocked Kobe from getting on the court because Kobe was a trash player the first three years he was in the league. Not a mystery and not a point in favor of Jones.

Yup. His job was to run through the motions until a team landed a better guard.

Jones was a 3 time all star who once led the league in steals. Rose is a guy who just liked to shoot the ball. There is a reason why J.R. Smith and DJ Augustine are comps for him.

Well. He did make three all-star team I think. I also remember that with the Lakers he generally guarded the others team best SG or SF. Eddie was a pretty good player.

Jones was an all-star who had talent. Kobe was an 18 year old kid who Jerry West thought was going to be a great player and was correct. He was also NEVER trash on the court. That was really a really dumb comment.

I saw them both play at the time when I cared more about the NBA than anything else in the world. Eddie Jones was a completely replaceable player than always shrank when it mattered. Jalen Rose was ultimately a forgettable player but he came up when it mattered. I’m still a young man relatively speaking but I’ll remember Jalen playing 20 years from now. I’m not sure I can even currently recall an Eddie Jones moment

If all you can do is cite a Wikipedia resume then I’m not sure you’re needed here my friend. We all have Google.

You have nothing. Why? Because there is nothing that says Rose was better at basketball than Eddie Jones. You should know better.

That's really HILARIOUS. Your melodramatic statement about "remembering Jalen playing 20 years from now" is remarkable. He was like a 5th or 6th or 7th player on a good team. Jones was a starting guard and three time all star because he played both sides of the court. Neither were remarkable players. You must have really been hard up to remember Jalen Rose as an NBA player.
