We just disagree on Kukoc. I've always thought of him as a role player and to me that memory holds up rewatching a lot of these games.

Here are the pure statistical comps for Kukoc from basketball reference. Aside from O'neal who for a short time was a legit star, Randolph as well, and maybe Coleman who was also good before my time, I can't see how you would say Kukoc doesn't belong in this class of players.

Toni Kukoč
Zach Randolph
Donyell Marshall
Jermaine O'Neal
Nenê Hilário
Corey Maggette
Danny Manning
Mickey Johnson
Tayshaun Prince
Derrick Coleman
Nick Anderson

https://www.basketball-reference.com/pl ... cto01.html

Every single one of those guys except Nick Anderson and maybe Prince is better than Kukoc. Prince is actually a decent comp imo even though they were polar opposite players.

Pippen had nearly an entire episode dedicated to his backstory and his coming of age in the NBA. You're making it seem like the documentary gave more air time to Jud Buechler. It's flat out not true.

Hey man, all I'm saying is that plenty of observers in the know feel he got the short end of the stick, including allegedly the guy himself. Pretty strong indications.

The observers can feel however they want, but they are incorrect if they think that Pippen's own actions have nothing to do with him being given that short stick.

I think it's fair to say Pippen owes a lot more of his success to Jordan than vice versa. Jordan toughened him up and taught him how to stand up for himself and what is needed to win in the playoffs. I get the impression that to this day Pippen doesn't understand that.

Where as MANY of the other guys they talked to-- Perdue, Kerr, Wennington, and even Horace to an extent-- definitely understood what MJ's endgame was. Maybe not in the present as they went through it, but they figured it out at some point.

Btw that post about a line is a specific response to FF. I'm aware that Pippen had a lot of screen time. The whole controversy is about how he was represented and not how much he was represented. There's no right or wrong answer here so we'll probably have to leave it at this. For me, I'm just critical of accepting the narrative wholesale knowing it was MJ who controlled it - just isn't very balanced.

Pippen wasn't the brightest bulb on the string. I missed some of the early episodes on this series. Did they cover anything about how Pippin ignored the advice given to him about not signing a long term contract with the Bulls at the price that he settled for? Don't get me wrong, no one put a gun to his head about signing for what he did and a contract is a contract. I do also feel that Reinny should have redone his deal. As a second to Michael he was maybe the best supporting player to a mega star ever. At least one of the best ever. Pippen was a terrific player. I loved when he, Michael, Harper, Rodman, and and Luc were on the court and played their attack style defense. It had to be really frustrating for the other team when the attack dogs were sent out.

To me, this was the epitome of team basketball. Fun to watch.

The rest....(1.8 seconds, scheduling of surgery)....are just facts. Even the contract.....Pippen made his bed. He was easily the best defender I've ever watched.

A very big but largely unnoticed element in the enhancement of both Scottie and Horace's game was their dramatic increase in muscle sometime around year 3. I doubt they devote themselves to sculpting their bodies the way they did without Jordan's lead.

I think Scottie would have ended up being a nice, slasher type of scorer and good defender without Jordan but he would have never demanded greatness out of himself. Scottie was a guy who would have been satisfied with modest success.

Yep, as MJ said he pushed people when they didn't want to be pushed.

Not trying to be an ass here, but do you see a potential bias issue here with "as MJ said, he pushed people when they didn't want to be pushed" in a doc about MJ that was also vetted and controlled by MJ?

That's pretty much been the story for MJ since the Jordan Rules were published. It's not like people didn't know that until ESPN did this.

I am not really sure what this has to do with my statement. Even if the doc wasn't made or controlled by MJ my point and what dolphin was saying is true.

Yeah the things that were in the documentary were things that Pippen actually did. It's hard for him to say he was unfairly depicted with that being the case.

If they so desired they could have included the part where he repeatedly bitched and moaned about a contract that could not be renegotiated. Per the 1995 CBA, his contract could not have been renegotiated even if Reinsdorf had decided to do so.

All Pippen had to do was to say that he would have done things differently and he chose to say he "probably wouldn't change it" if he could.
