In my last therapy session we were able to come up with a hobby that may work for me : Fishing!

It's a hobby where I can do with myself (i may bring my lady friend though ) and not too expensive. I think a starter kit at Walmart is like $20.

I have not gone fishing since I was a teen.

Any advice for beginners? I have some sites already planned out to go to. Will have our version of my transistor radio with me , iphone, and too bad no baseball to listen to, will tune into maybe one of those cmfb podcasts tommy linked me to.

Really looking forward to it!

My advice it to find an avid fisherman who is a friend/family member/neighbor who will show how to set up rods and all the basics you will need. I've helped buddies get started to show their kids how to do basic live bait rigs and artificial baits for bass and panfish. Don't be afraid to ask someone.

You can join local fishing sites such as Chitown Angler or Windy City Fishing or Facebook groups such as Illinois Fishing Reports or Illinois Fishing Bandits and ask questions. Fishermen love talking about fishing and helping people out.

I started fishing as a kid with my dad but really got into in my 20s and it has been a mainstay in my life ever since. So if you have any specific questions, fire away.
