Of course he didn't die from strangulation. He had a knee on the side of his neck, a pretty good sized cop on his neck and upper back, another cop's full weight on his back and yet another cop on his legs. His blood flow was restricted to his brain and his chest compressed under a few hundred pounds.

If I was sitting on your chest and you couldn't do anything about it...and I sat there until you couldn't breathe anymore, that's not strangulation...but it would be murder.

Angry people don't always think rationally. Most of the time people just want to feel like they're being heard.

If you have the time, focus on some of the video. In nearly every case there are people peacefully protesting and someone throws a rock or bottle from the back of the crowd. Someone in a brightly colored shirt or jacket kicks or jumps on a police car. I watched a 20 something black or Hispanic woman literally get in the face of EVERY officer while everyone else stands back with signs or they're chanting. She was hoping that some spittle or something pissed one off and they attack.

I don't know about 80% being outside provocateur's, but there are people there who's only goal is chaos and destruction. Of course there are locals who couldn't name the people who have been killed that don't want to miss and opportunity to grab a free item.

The autopsy also showed he had underlying heart problems and possible intoxicants in the system; those plus him being restrained resulted in his death.

I'm not excusing the officer at all; what he did by placing his knee on the guys neck (while he was restrained) is uncalled for and he should be charged with murder, just not 1st or 2nd Degree according to the law.

I'm not going to pretend that I have the answers because I don't. I think mutual respect is required.

Everyone of us will likely encounter an asshole cop a couple of times in our lives regardless of your economic status. Those experiences don't make all/most cops bad, racist or any other negative label. We all make mistakes and we all have bad days.

What I think many of us fail to understand is that when you are young and/or poor (regardless of race) these "bad" encounters are more frequent. The abuses of power are more likely. Race of the cop doesn't matter either. Most poor people would probably tell you that they have been abused by more cops who look like them than ones that don't.

How do you change this? I don't have a clue. People with power will do stupid shit and people without power love challenging authority. I believe having more cops work in the community they live with could help. You are more likely to respect your neighbor. You're also more likely to give your neighbor the benefit of the doubt. More community outreach is also needed.
