How dare the media focus on mass looting and destruction? There was a lot of "positivity" before that.

only two years after his arrest?

Yeah, I think I've maybe found a fault in the justice system.

They defaced the fucking Lincoln Memorial. Churches are being burned, our history is being destroyed, I swear it is looking like fucking Venezuela on the TV. It is time for these local leaders to stop trying to blame others and stamp this shit out,if it was really a majority of outsiders wouldn't they be able to find them easy? check the fucking hotels, look for out of state plates. Total typical Dem , Not my fault B.S. . We had a chance a week ago to make some change, now it is all fucking wasted. Where are all the leaders of the B l a c k community on TV telling their brothers and sisters to out the agitators? Fucking cowards and hustlers all. The only one I saw so far who has tried to calm shit down and talk of peace is Floyds brother and then right after him some street thug took the megaphone from him and started spewing the usual hat shit.

And yet you're the one giving a deep throated endorsement of the bunker don famous for claiming that he "takes no responsibility" in one crisis he exacerbated while retweeting lines from a segregationist southern leader of the sixties in the next.

Here's my thought on this. These were clearly legitimate protests. Sometimes things get out of hand. Sometimes things are necessary to get attention. I don't think looting and burning are "good", but when your problems are being ignored they are a form of protest. That gets undermined by people giggling as they're grabbing shoes and TVs, so once that happens it's time to stop that particular protest.

I'm not saying police should just allow people to bust up stores, but in the context of these protests I think a "light touch" was the most advisable approach. However, what's happening now with planned burglaries and random break-ins across the city and suburbs, we've left protesting far behind. These are street crews and they now need to be addressed the way any street crew taking the actions they are taking would be.

Donald Trump was 22 years old when the comment was made. He u understood exactly who it was that he happened to be quoting.

Doubt it. He's a sucker for catchy slogans. I'm confident he has no idea of the slogan's historical significance.

I passed by a local Jewel this morning and the lot was packed. From a distance I mistakenly thought that the store was open to run in and grab (& pay for a few items). Getting close to the store I realized that the assholes were looting the hell out of the store. I got angry and drove away only to pass 6 cops in 3 SUVs less than three blocks away laughing and grinning standing on the sidewalk. It's overwhelmingly likely that none of them were from, or gave a damn about the neighborhood they are supposed to serve and protect.

I still can't believe the live feed Channel 7 had of that south side strip mall being completely cleaned out without a cop in sight.

WTF are you talking about? There were ZERO police at that mall for the 10-15 minutes that I watched the feed. And who knows how long it was going on before the copter got there and after. No policing is a hell of a lot different than "enough" policing.

You're right. But the bad patterns and practices are second nature for far too many cops not in middle/upper income areas, so it's not the case imo.

That actually is a mixed use corner building that could've been adequately covered by four squad cars, if every cop hadn't been in the Loop/River North fending off boredom.

You're assuming the officers acted lawfully. Reports are they just randomly fired into a crowd and killed an innocent man.

That makes more sense than they don't care about the neighborhood because they are not from there. I would guess the guys looting the Jewel were from there. I did not see any reports of police shooting protesters or looters. That seemed to be the larger goal of policing this weekend rather than stopping crimes.

Oh is that sad. It’s just reciprocal distrust in these communities with the cops acting like entitled civil servants that are protected by a strong and politically powerful union. It’s as if no one cares- people looting places in their neighborhood and cops not caring. No civic pride whatsoever.

Or maybe they were told not to interfere by the PC who was told by the mayor ?

That makes more sense than they don't care about the neighborhood because they are not from there. I would guess the guys looting the Jewel were from there. I did not see any reports of police shooting protesters or looters. That seemed to be the larger goal or policing this weekend rather than stopping crimes.

It’s the “ give them space “ edict that worked so well in Baltimore .
