I am tired. I style myself as a vulgar goofball like 98% of the time but the facade is starting to slip. This shit has got me feeling seriously bummed. There appears to be zero room for kindness anymore. Everyone wants to point fingers. Everyone is out for blood. I always knew there was a stark divide between the haves and have-nots, but social media is shoving that reality in my face every minute of every day.

I'm walking around my (suburban!) town and people are out eating and drinking as though there weren'tprotests and riots in nearly every city in this country last night. I felt this palpable sense of disgust looking at them. But I am not angry at them so much as I am angry at my own cynicism.

I feel helpless. Nothing seems to matter anymore and I am starting to wonder if anything ever mattered. Because what happens when the riots are over? Are people going to stop killing each other? No. Is life going to be even incrementally better for the neighborhoods hit hardest by the riots? No. Nothing is going to get better because people don't want things to get better. We want to horde our resources. accumulate things, and defend what little we have the the exclusion of anything else. Nothing else matters. Community is an illusion.

So call me a burrito, simp, whatever. I am done giving a shit because everyone else has.

Peace and love.

You’re a good dude. Your snarky posting is not the real you. You just like to be silly on the board.

Do not let this crap get to you. When folks like you give up on the American project, it makes it that much harder to pull this back together. The country has had much darker moments. It is events like this where progress can occur.

We are living in the golden age of small screen entertainment. Just load up Netflix.

Take tomorrow off work and drive downtown and spend the day helping businesses that were torn apart by looting. You'll feel better.

Take a breath and talk to your friends and neighbors.

Go out and do something.

Things look bad, but the friendship and camaraderie can help a lot.

Hope and Change didn't work out very well, did it?. Neither did Obama's Presidency, who was the first to stoke all the racial anger and resentment that we're seeing now. It didn't happen under the two Bushes or Clinton. Bill Clinton did best for race relations by far. He was a model President in that respect. Even Conservatives liked him.

You should go to England and see how crappy it is there, like in parts of London. Then you will feel better again about being in the U.S.

Start by looking within for contentment and be satisfied with less. Take more walks.

I've started thinking like this too. It started with the Covid stuff and has increased with this George Floyd murder, protesting, rioting, and the public response to same. I said to my buddy on Saturday here we are while the world is on fire playing golf at a country club 60 miles west of Chicago and largely removed from the chaos. I get to do that because I use the legal system to kick people out of their apartments (mostly low income black people), foreclose on people's homes, and put small businesses out of business when they can't pay the bank. I used to shrug it off by saying it's just a job and someone else would be doing it if I wasn't. But man, I just don't know anymore.

The have-nots deserve where they're at. Positive change comes from within, with discipline and hard work. The riots and looting will set blacks back 20 years.

I cant believe it took a relatively obscure and rare way for people to die in America for people to wake up the fact that the USA is basically broken beyond repair. You'd think it would have been a million other things before this.

Either way OP is a snarky shitlib who would have nothing but mean things to say if it were somebody else who started this thread. I have love in my heart for SpiralStairs, but he is a jerk.

Actually, I've had it with the U.S and the corporatocracy. My medium term goal is to permanently move to Italy or Bosnia, like the town of Konjic.

I've lived overseas before in Germany and England. Germany was nice, England not so much because of the English. Bosnians seem like very good people.

I actually really enjoy the rural UK and Scotland in particular is a nice place to live.

I dont think it really gets better than New Zealand, though South Africa is so much fun and has so much positive energy that I sometimes think I could live there.

This is all attracting every village idiot to try his hand at rioting:
https://www.villageoflombard.org/CivicA ... px?AID=167

Idiot wanders up with a Molotov thinking he is Abbie Hoffman's grandson. We have to stop giving credence and empathy to idiots and assholes, and especially to asshole idiots.

I'm bummed out that because of COVID the nice little volunteering gigs I was accumulating have ground to a halt as I worry about my health. I had focused on food safety especially around seniors and children and i had identified more weekday gigs I could do now that I'm not working as much. All in the shitter for now, hopefully by August I can start again. Just trying to isolate the fucked over from the assholes, and meet some like minded people as acquaintances and maybe even friends.

But depression isn't going to help anyone, especially yourself. You can't help everybody, just focus on helping somebody.

I didn't make it to Scotland or anywhere else outside London except Windsor and to Wales. I went to Swansea and visited the poet, Dylan Thomas' boathouse. The Welsh are very nice people.

The chan communities call this taking "the black pill" (not a race thing afaik) -- of course, if you Google the term vox pops up to tie it to the inherent fatalism of the incel community. Good luck with your involuntary celibacy, double-S!

I’ll give you some advice my old man have to me that has lived with me to this day: shut up you drippy Caller Bob. Things have never been objectively better for humanity in just about every facet of being Than they are today. Not only that they have been continuing to get better for a millenium or more so the prognosis for continued improvement is pretty good.

Those were his last words to me, not because he died but because he left the family for a Las Vegas show girl
