This is interesting. I loved the roach metaphor and thought it was a "good" eulogy, but I thought his delivery absolutely sucked. I was left wishing that another black pastor delivered the eulogy. I would have even taken Obama fumbling through scripture.

I guess its subjective or you are racist.

It's always interesting to me to see how another religion celebrates what I term as the sacraments. That would have been a very different ceremony in a Roman Catholic church.

I thought Sharpton sounded like he was about to keel over.

You know the conclusions of the protests are arriving when they have one in my area. I'm still probably going to go with my boys, not to protest but so I can say I matched Nas.

Seems like you are very secure in your position. Since you are so offended by white privilege renounce your race, give your possessions to black and brown people, and move to Englewood.

I don't think anyone thinks society is perfect. Believing that the police are all evil though is a smaller scale version of believing that all illegal immigrants are rapists and criminals. Those thoughts seem to be mainstream political positions.

Part of me wonders if you could really sell the idea of a private security firm now. Not like ADT or some rent-a-cop who's job is to just call the real police, but armed private paramilitary groups that provide neighbourhood security. I think we are almost there.

And every side believes they are right, and everybody else is wrong.

I don't think this is true. I think there is near consensus on the underlying issue, even among the police.

Beg to differ. One side says blacks are disproportionately targeted while the other side says blacks make up an insignificant amount of victims compared to other races and that blacks are way more likely to die as a result of black on black violence more than anything else. And round and round we go.

Well blacks, like all Americans, are way more likely to die of heart disease than anything else.

Mine as well do it. And the gangs can be the police in the inner city neighborhoods. Seems like that's already happening anyway. No official police. No signs of bias anymore.

It will have a preemptive feel to it.

We've had two here in the last three days.

Well the advantage is they are only beholden to serving and protecting their customers. No more getting mired in the weeds of public service or whatever.

Minneapolis city council is not-so-seriously debating whether to disband the Minneapolis Police Dept. Like just straight up get rid of it.

Now is the perfect time for an enterprising young lad with a couple million to burn to offer these current cops a hundred grand or so a year, load up on surplus MRAPs and old Kiowa's and build a private army. Subscription service law enforcement.

There are a few previously held, seemingly unrelated agendas out there trying to attach themselves to what is going on. I saw a black transgendered lives matter sign. The dem socialists are trying to make some hay as well.

Good for Minneapolis. Reminds me of when the NYPD went on unofficial strike and crime went down

they still responded to violent crime calls and those crimes remained basically constant. the state kept its monopoly on the use of force and there was no real indication that violent or serious property crime would go unpunished.

what did happen is that there were fewer tickets and fines issued and city revenues went down. saying there was less "crime" is disingenuous, as nobody really considers the revenue collection services performed by police but deigned by municipal government as actual crime-fighting.

There were less major crimes reported. That's a fact. Not talking about parking tickets.

I'm not sure how you could get any more stupid...but you keep trying.

Why don't you come out to the event in Libertyville on Saturday. I'll probably be there. You can argue with people face to face.

There were less major crimes reported. That's a fact. Not talking about parking tickets.

Quote:
All of this is happening as New York has had one of its safest years in several decades. Crime dropped 4.6 percent from 2013 to 2014, and the city had the fewest murders since it started keeping track — in 1963. That broader trend is much more well-established than week-to-week fluctuations, so it's important not to put too much stock in the numbers for the last two weeks.

That said, it appears that crime over the two weeks of the shutdown is lower than it was in 2013-14 (with one exception: there were slightly more robberies the week of December 29 than there were the previous year). However, major crime rates rose from the week of Christmas to the week of New Year's — while they'd dropped from one week to the next last year.

It's possible that the rise in crime is due to broader awareness of the slowdown (though violent crime arrests aren't dropping as much as arrests for other crimes).

However, for many, the bottom line is that there hasn't been a drastic increase — that a 55 percent drop in arrests hasn't led to a 55 percent increase in crime.

Basically stayed the same. Some statistical noise, I guess but no indication that it had any real effect either way on major crime. This is probably because cops and criminal both knew that armed robberies, sexual assaults, murder, burglary, etc. was not going to go unpunished. Of course if you disband the MPD there will be nobody to actually enforce those laws and it goes to reason that without the deterrent rates of those crimes will skyrocket.

The issue you have with police officers being revenue collectors for the state should probably be taken up with your city government, not cops. I really dont want to go over basic civics with you, but its important to know that the job of lawmaker and job of law enforcer are totally seperate. Blaming law enforcement for issues you really have with lawmakers is, simply put, ignorant.
