Can't believe you never seen.. I'd say 3.5 stars.

Just never got around to it. Heard it’s decent. Planning on giving it a spin this evening

Last watched it in the eighties. I don't really remember caring for it much back then. Let us know if you enjoyed it, I may rewatch on your reco.

Not worth the investment of time it requires. In my mind Platoon and Full Metal Jacket are better. However, it depends on your tastes. If you prefer highly stylized movies to movies that strive for realism (although you were actually in the military, so you might have some interesting opinions on the realism of Platoon and Full Metal Jacket) you might like it.

The original (can't believe I even have to say that) 'Red Dawn' is better.

It is long, but really it is a movie of individual scenes IMO. You can break it up and still enjoy it.

A lot of bad takes in this thread. It's easily the best Vietnam movie.

I saw it when it was released.. Mom and dad couldn’t get a sitter so it was off to the Arcada with a 4 and 6 year old..parents of the year! I think it explains a lot of what happened in my life.

My Dad says it’s one of his favorite Nam movies as it captures something the others don’t (two tours) He can’t explain it, I haven’t asked about it in years don’t really plan on doing it again. I personally love the movie even if it is longer than fuck.

Deer Hunter followed by Full Metal Jacket followed by Apocalypse Now.

There was some movie with Michael J Fox that ruined his movie career.

That would be 'Doc Hollywood'.

Ok. But I remember Sean Penn being pissed about McFly ruining his movie. After that movie, his career was shaky.

I don't remember hearing that. I think Penn acted like a nut while filming and he was a little over the top. People didn't really want to see Fox in that type of movie but I think he did a really nice job. I love him though. Some of the movie was odd with the scenes or writing but overall it was good. It's not really rewatchable.

Apocalypse Now is okay. Little too weird for me to like.

It was fine until they got to Cambodia. Then it went off the rails.

That's pretty much how I remember it. More weird for the sake of being weird.

Frankly the only Vietnam war movie I ever rewatch is We Were Soldiers. I don't even enjoy the first half of Full Metal Jacket anymore as I hate bullying.

movie gets a lot of hype as it has some really good acting but i was not really impressed by it. i felt it was ok or even a bit below average. but have not watched it in like 30 years i think. when i do see it on tv i typically avoid it. it just comes off very self-aggrandizing.

Agree with what the other poster said, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon are so much better. I would also put Casualties of War (Micheal J Fox) in that bunch as Vietnam movies much better than Ap Now.

Talking about Vietnam War movies, let's not forget Good Morning Vietnam. That one a lot of people forget but I really enjoy it.

One I really didnt like that I thought I'd like is Born on the 4th of July. Big Oliver Stone fan but that one never did it for me.

I have AN as the best Vietnam Movie by a sliver, even though I would be in favor of completely cutting out the gross Brando parts.

Can't fade 'Platoon', though, and agreed as to Full Metal Jacket as well.

'Deer Hunter' was good, but was much more dialogue-based.

Saw 'Hamburger Hill' on cable in the 80's and don't remember hating that one, either.

'Tropic Thunder' is a badass Vietnam flick as well.

100% this.

Skip all the scenes when they get to Marlon Brando, that part of the movie sucks.

agreed here as well. Second half of Full Metal Jacket is very weak once they get in this shit compared to other Vietnam movies.

First three-fourths of Apocalypse Now, I'd say. It's that last fourth that makes me hate Hollywood. And snails on the edge of razors.
