A lobster is just a big fucking insect if you look at it. I eat em just fine though.

Ooooooooooooooooh. I thought they didn't do that no more. That's fucked up.

I am trying not to eat meat out of cruelty to animals, but I can't eat that other fucking yuppie/Naperville/Professor of Asian Design and Literature shit. Plus, if I get any skinnier, I'll look like Flat Stanley.

Maybe I don't want the free range farm eggs after all...

Mostly it’s just seeds, insects and grass/weed along with their feed but occasionally the farm yard provides them an unexpected bonus. When it comes to food... most people don’t want to know how the sausage is made.

I've been that way about many foods for decades now. Sometimes it can even get pretty severe.

I know MANY who won’t eat chicken on the bone because it’s too.. I don’t know, reminiscent of the bird as opposed to just food. Separating the process from the result.. I don’t know, seeing the process with most meats from start to finish I can see going vegetarian. But I like the taste of meat too much I guess.

I’m not sure I can think of a food that I discovered that something about that made it impossible to eat although lobster and crab come damn close but since I don’t eat those much anyways I guess it’s not a pressing issue for me.

I remember when I was a kid we were at a "fancy" restaurant and I ordered fish. I assumed it would be a fish fry like I was used to. It was the first time I had seen it served with the scales still on the underside. Freaked me out. I was off fish for a long while after that. I think I started crying if I remember correctly.

I’ll have you out to work the cattle and hogs, you’ll realize it’s either you or them (okay, not really).

Sausage making but.... the production of legumes isn’t exactly cruelty free. And I’m not talking plants having feelings.

And yes, cooking alive is my issue.

My great grandmother used to sit whole fish on the counter while she was getting other stuff together, between the look and later smell of that last giant buffalo fish, I haven't been able to eat fishy smelling fish for over four decades. My wife and kids remain stunned by my voracious appetite for monkfish, tuna and all things shellfish.

I was at a lawyers luncheon years ago and decided to try a small bite of salmon and damn near lost it.

The thought of eating buffalo fish... :pukel:

I could see where cooking them yourself could be bothersome. Do you eat lobster tails or crab legs from the grocery store?

I don’t often eat crab and pretty much never eat lobster. Crab only when I make a version of a low country boil on family vacation. I worked at a meat and seafood counter out west and had to cook live lob often. Pretty much zero interest in them to this day.

Would slamming a lobster's head with a hammer be more like how a meat cow dies? Is it better than face first boiling?

Go deep sea fishing a couple times. You'll lose any sort of compassion for the poor little fishies. I can't tell you how many times I've reeled in partial fish, often just the head, the body cleanly or not so cleanly sliced away by a shark/barracuda/mackerel/dolphin. You'll quickly realize live bait is the best bait for most larger species and jamming a hook through a live fish's back and cutting a couple slices in it to make it bleed before tossing it back in the water with a balloon tied to the line to prevent it from hiding in the bottom, becomes second nature.

I ate a burger Saturday, that came from a cow, that was once owned by Drunk Squirrel.

I didn't ask him how Mabel died, nor do I care.

Great burger btw.

We recently "re-homed" our hens. They literally wiped out the entire backyard. Turned it into a dirt lot. We could have kept them locked in their little pen but for that its a lot cheaper just to buy eggs at the store.

They are very interesting creatures. Each with its own personality and place in the "pecking order." I do miss one of them a lot. She was like a pet that would come to investigate whatever I was doing in the back yard.

"Cluck cluck...oh I see you are building some raised garden beds...cluck cluck." I was hammering and drilling and she was literally right in my face.

Our eggs would get chicken shit on them very rarely. they should not be shitting in their nest or something is awry.

Cool story.

We've forgotten how big a problem that was being breathlessly reported on 8 years ago. The people on channel 11 were damn near unhinged.

Still a problem on the Illinois, hopefully it stays that way vs the lake system. The amount of “carp buster” boats I saw near the river on Saturday was impressive.
