Well I paid for it in a paperback format and read it a few years ago. Pretty good read; he wrote it because he was broke and facing some medical bills if I recall correctly. I think in his time he would have been considered a "cool" president like Obama.



More than medical bills as he was writing it as he died of throat cancer. He was trying to secure A future for his family, didn’t want to leave his wife destitute.

if you see the doc, he freed one of his slaves when he Grant was broke. He could have gotten good money back then for him, but stood by his morals.

And he never owned slaves. his wife's family did but Grant and his family were very anti-slavery. Its all in the doc.
