This is false. China was much more than a "limited example of Socialism existing beyond the confines of the Soviet Union".

The Sino-Soviet fracture didn't really occur until about a decade or so into the Cold War. Its fair to use the term Soviet bloc as a blanket term for "communist states of the postwar order", but I get why you have a problem with that. Please re-read that post you are quoting me on as:

I don’t take payments unless the people I’m farming with in partnership on some acres need to take them and it helps them with paperwork. Don’t participate in federal crop either or sell to ethanol plants. In general I’d prefer the government to get the hell out of farming, including the regulations that add lots of red tape to my life.

Subsidies, if anything, are in place these days to keep production up in order to keep the large industries that use commodities supplied with cheap and, perhaps more importantly, consistent supplies of material. There are a myriad amount if results from the subsidies that have little to do with the farmer’s take home pay but that would have significant impacts on local conditions.

Not really. Its not like people would no longer eat food. Agriculture has existed for the better part of the last twenty thousand years, trust me when I say it doesn't need the American government and the subsidies it provides.

You're merely speculating again. It's been widely known that Millions of Farmers would have gone bankrupt years ago without subsidies.

I'm really not speculating. Human beings will continue to need to eat and there will be farmers to meet that demand no matter what subsidies exist. That's not really up for debate or speculation unless as a species we transcend the mortal plane of existence.

China was never a Soviet bloc nation though. They were always independent of the Soviets. There have been other examples of Socialism which has existed beyond those 2 also. Just having China in there at all illustrates that it's not limited though.

It's not about whether people need to eat or not. If course they need to eat. That doesn't mean that MANY farmers wouldn't have gone bankrupt. We can and do import food. Actually one of the reasons that we subsidize the Farming industry in the first place is so that we can protect it against foreign markets.

I will simply provide something from a random year and leave it at this.
Quote:
For somebody who works the hard northern land that was first cut by homesteaders' plows less than a century ago, the big harvest of government checks usually happens in the fall -- $40,000 for just being a farmer, another $40,000 for emergencies like bad market conditions, more than $100,000 for not making any money on what is grown, and $50,000 for taking other land out of production.

Good crops or bad, high yields or low -- it hardly matters, the checks roll in from the federal government, the biggest payroll in farm country. By the end of the year, some farmers can receive up to $280,000 simply by having another miserable year of failure.

Perhaps never in the history of a nation founded by agrarian self-starters has the federal government propped up rural America to such a degree. This year, the government distributed a record $28 billion in direct payments, accounting for half of all the money made by farmers. In eight states, including Montana, government assistance made up 100 percent of overall farm income.

Among civil-rights activists today, talk of black self-destructive behavior is unpopular and minimal. Writing in Commentary magazine last month, Jason Hill, a professor of philosophy at DePaul University, noted the hypocrisy of groups like Black Lives Matter, who “want white people to esteem black lives and value the humanity of black people when they themselves can’t condemn and express moral outrage at those who maim and kill black children in the course of gang warfare, senseless street violence, and drive-by shootings.”

Mr. Hill added that the “moral hysteria raised by a few incidents of police brutality in the face of this larger national tragedy is reckless hyperbole” and “hides from the nation a deep malaise at work in the psyche of some in the black community: a form of self-hatred that manifests itself in a homicidal rage not fundamentally against white people, but against other black people.” [/i]

Don't know about the "self hatred" part but there is some legitimacy ito what the guy says. In order for Black Lives Matter to be taken seriously they are going to have to expand their message and include crime and violence in black communities. There has to be some accountability there as well. It just cannot be about Cops killing or targeting black people.

The premise behind the movement is in their title. Well if that's the case then black on black crime cannot be excluded from the discussion.

I also hope that they will expand it so that economics are included. Racism is not just a social tool, it's an economic tool also. Their is an economic downside to it which is very much pervasive. As such it cannot be ignored.

In whichever manner anyone would like to argue it, I think that the majority of the white population of this country will be less inclined to take accountability for their own issues if leaders of the revolution will not take accountability for items mentioned above. I think that is just human nature, though. Which is one of the reasons there is such turmoil right now. The hypocrisy and lack of accountability in today's society is off the charts.

So it was a personal issue between the two and one guy decided to kill the other.

When can we renew police again?

At the end of the day the alarmist rhetoric that its a racist system eventually gives way to the reality that 99.9% of disputes that end this way are just two people beefing.

Another anecdote that Americock will question.

My buddy is a plumber, lives in Evanston. He's black. He drives a white work van. He was taking his son to the beach the other day when some of the action was going down. His van ended up surrounded by cops, guns drawn...until they figured out he wasn't a looter.

Same guy, last year in Lake Bluff, helping another friend on a Sunday...3 squads surround his van, start questioning what he's doing, they had a call about suspicious activity. His son was in the van that time too.

Both situations, white guy, nobody bats an eye.

Either way there's a lot of different things you can mean by "socialist elements". The military and post office come from the founding of the country, which itself predates socialism by about a century. I just dont buy that anything collectivist also means socialist.

We have aocialized farming since the 1940's. That's Socialist but you rarely hear about and I'm sure if pressed your average Farmer would claim that he is just one of the many cogs of the Free Market System. We Socialize Real Estate through Section 8 and other programs which allow developers and landlords to increase their profits while contributing far less than they ordinarily would. We Socialize the energy industry also. Stock Market is socialized too yet do the people that benefit from it ever admit this? Nope.

There are all types of blatantly Socialist elements that are to be found in our supposedly Capitalist society. If you were to talk to MANY of our nation's capitalist you'd likely hear that it was all due to their entrepreneurial spirit and acumen however. It's in many ways a sham.

Indeed. When you clearly have no leverage in a situation, you have 2 choices: either bluff (and pray that it works out well), or fold your hand and save your chips for the next deal.
