Like a literal slaveowner in Louisiana two hundred years ago knew that calling someone a "n*****" was offensive. GJ continues to prove he's from another planet.

I went to Johnnie's Beef the other day (hadn't been there in months), and noticed they had removed all the soda brand names from the menu board as well as the fountain machine itself, and replaced them with generic "COLA", "ROOT BEER", LEMON LIME", "ORANGE" etc. So I ordered a LEMON LIME with my combo. The cashier asked me to repeat the drink, and I thought it was because it was hard to hear with the mask I was wearing. After I once again said LEMON LIME a bit louder, the guy paused and then asked, "oh, you mean 7-UP?"

It's not what he meant. And I'm not one to defend Jet. He's talking about whites having conversations with whites. Doesn't happen much anymore, but now and again, some America type will drop a bomb.

There are white kids who grow up with black kids that use it just the same.

There are also people in the south who use it just like any other pronoun. They never even think twice. It just is.

If you grow up literally anywhere in this country, you know the N word is offensive. Having a "hall pass" from your black friends you grew up around is irrelevant to that.

One time in 6th grade we neighborhood kids were at my friend's house and made a mess of the basement. His dad said we were living like white enwards. I told him there's no such thing. He disagreed with me. Years later I would find out he's a drunk who beat his wife and all four of his kids. I guess he was right after all!

Of course everyone knows it's an offensive word, but it's only very recently gotten to a ridiculous point where it's become a reason to to act like a murder has been committed when it comes out of a white person's mouth regardless of context, e.g. a rapper inviting a person on stage to sing along with him, or a professor reading Letter from a Birmingham Jail aloud.

I don't know about acting like a murder, that seems hyperbolic to say the least.

But this isn't a new issue. I was like 13 the summer the Thong Song came out, and that was like a real fight kids all over we're having on who was allowed to sing a long to it

What's hyperbolic is the reaction. Yeah, it's a nasty word. But you know that the usage of it has been used to excuse people being beaten or occasionally even killed. The whole idea that only certain people are "allowed" to use certain words should be reprehensible to all of us. And no, I don't have the slightest desire to run around screaming "genius" or "burrito" or "patriot". But that isn't the point.
