Every group of people in this country have slurs that are unique to their group. MANY people in those groups occasionally use those slurs to degrade one another, as a term of endearment or even as a joke. They're still rightfully offended when someone outside their group uses the word or words. You and WFR appear to be so desirous to shout "N*GGER!" that you act as if you don't understand this.

Are you asking your Jewish friends why you can't use their slurs? What about your Russian friends? Hispanic friends? Friends in any other racial or ethnic group? Of course not! It's not hard to understand why they're not okay for you or I to say.

I’m only in my mid 50s and distinctly remember a chain of Denny’s like restaurants called Sambos. I would bet many on this board don’t even know why that would be offensive but I recall my mom reading me that story as a kid and I am still truly am amazed at how long this kind of stuff was marketed without any repercussions.

The one said with no hesitation by my grandparents was n-word-rigged when they fixed shit up just enough so that it worked. My dad always said jury rigged so that’s the phrase I Still use and now it’s always in the back of my mind that people will think I mean the other thing when I say it.

Zippy, the last standing Sambos has just covered up their sign in all of this and replaced it with "Peace and Love" until they come up with a new name. The name was originally chosen as a combination of founder Sam Battistone and Newell Bohnett and was never intended as a racial slur... in fact, they were originally fixated on keeping the name so they could explain why it wasn't. Newer management however agrees that this interpretation is not the first a passerby will have.
