It's becoming quite clear from this incident, the other incidents and the reactions from other police officers that the entire training system for police is fucked beyond belief on an entire national level.

99.9 percent of their interactions dont result major fuckups. now the ones that they do fuck up on are viewed by millions less than 2 hours after it happens.

Quote:
It is highly unlikely that an objective, professional investigation of Brooks’s shooting would result in any criminal charges. It would not have been opportune, then, for Howard to await the results of the GBI investigation. And while grand juries are often belittled as willing to indict a ham sandwich if that’s what the prosecutor tells them to do, it is highly unlikely, even in the current climate of intimidation, that an Atlanta grand jury would indict a cop for capital murder on the facts of this case. In Atlanta, the police department is nearly 60 percent African American. While the rabble-rousers dominate the coverage, most citizens realize that many of the black lives that matter wear blue uniforms and put those lives on the line to protect the city.

Howard is playing to the rabble-rousers, so he had to act now. And “act” is a good word for it. In announcing the charges, with a straight face, he described Brooks as “jovial,” though Brooks actually assaulted the arresting officers. He claimed Brooks “did not pose an immediate threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or officers,” when, in reality, Brooks stole a taser from them, shot it at them, and was still pointing it at Rolfe when Rolfe finally fired at him. The prosecutor’s press conference was theater of the absurd.

...

Brooks was clearly bigger and stronger than either of the two officers. In the physical struggle that he’d instigated, Brooks wrested a taser from Brosnan, freed himself from the scrum, and began to flee. As Rolfe chased him, Brooks fired the taser at Rolfe, from a range of less than three feet. Brooks had turned his body to fire at the pursuing Rolfe while running in the other direction.

The taser shot missed Rolfe, but it knocked him off-stride, veering him into the rear of a red car parked in the lot. By then, Rolfe had his service handgun drawn. He fired three times, striking Brooks twice in the back. The video shows that Brooks still had his body partially turned toward Rolfe, and was still pointing the taser at Rolfe, when Rolfe shot him. Remarkably, Howard dismisses this fact and claims that Brooks posed no real threat because Rolfe, in the moments when he was being tased at by a demonstrably violent felon, should have been counting the rounds and realized that the stolen taser Brooks was still pointing at him was out of charges.

I guess we know where former US Attorney Andrew McCarthy went to law school! Only an IDIOT former US Attorney wouldn't know that there isn't a statutory definition of "pointing", yet this asshole refers to Brooks pointing the taser at the pursuing officer as he fired as a "fact"! Dumbass

Here's the Fulton County prosecutor saying that a taser is considered a deadly weapon under Georgia law:

   You can't make this shit up.

On Wednesday, a federal appeals court ruled the presence of the air freshener alone was enough to justify the stop. Chicago’s municipal code prohibits objects that obstruct the windshield, and the officer had “reasonable suspicion” to think Jackson’s air freshener violated that law, the court found.

Excerpts from the WSJ June 2, 2020;

In 2018, the latest year for which such data have been published, African-Americans made up 53% of known homicide offenders in the U.S. and commit about 60% of robberies, though they are 13% of the population.

375 million annual contacts that police officers have with civilians.

In 2019 police officers fatally shot 1,004 people, most of whom were armed or otherwise. African-Americans were about a quarter of those killed by cops last year (235), a ratio that has remained stable since 2015. That share of black victims is less than what the black crime rate would predict, since police shootings are a function of how often officers encounter armed and violent suspects
.
The police fatally shot nine unarmed blacks and 19 unarmed whites in 2019, according to a Washington Post database, down from 38 and 32, respectively, in 2015.

Assuming a comparable number of victims last year, those nine unarmed black victims of police shootings represent 0.1% of all African-Americans killed in 2019.

By contrast, a police officer is 18½ times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male is to be killed by a police officer.

Police shootings are not the reason that blacks die of homicide at eight times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined; criminal violence is.

I agree with the implication of your post that the rhetoric of the day needs to change. However, I don't see how you can look at the methods used by police in just the last month and believe the way the operate doesn't need adjustment.

I think you already saw the result of a change in methods in Atlanta . Instead of beating the shit out of ( or applying a chokehold ) to a resisting suspect to subdue him, you had an officer who just went through de-escalation training do whatever the fuck the kindler gentler method was which resulted in the suspect not being subdued and obtaining one of the officers weapons . I wasn’t even joking when I said earlier that soon the police are going to be given universal marching orders to a let a person go as soon as they start resisting .

People act like Black People would go the way of the Dodo Bird if we didn't give them special treatment, lower the bar here and there, etc., and make their beds for them.

Not true.

As I said before, everyone with a brain knows that we will all gentrify into one race eventually (probably before we move closer to extinction of our own species as a whole, if we don't integrate with cyborgs or anther species or something to that effect), so laying out red carpets for particular persuasions is just a show and is not really necessary except for the present parties in power to try to manipulate people and selfishly gain more shekels for themselves.

Leap forward 10 years to 2030. After all this bullshit. It'll still go up to 65% homicides, 75% robberies, 17-18% of the population.
