Amazon workers in Chicago angered by ‘tokenized’ Juneteenth celebration offering chicken and waffles

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/19/chicago ... ation.html

Workers at an Amazon warehouse in Chicago have voiced outrage at the company after the facility offered employees “an authentic meal” of chicken and waffles in celebration of Juneteenth.
The facility, known as DCH1, notified employees on Thursday that it’s “honoring the Black community by supporting local Black businesses” and would offer employees chicken and waffles on Juneteenth, according to a document obtained by CNBC. The document appears to have been placed on a TV in the facility’s break room.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that Texas slaves received news of their freedom, two years after the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Were watermelon and chitlins not available?

Chicken and waffles is awesome. Nobody should ever complain about such a terrific meal being provided for them.

The way that entire incident went down is wrong. But that’s not murder. Even an average defense attorney should be able to get a not guilty finding on the murder charge.

Not to mention the decision to unholster the taser while rolling around on the ground with a drunk and a co-worker.

The reward for this type of poor job performance shouldn't be that you get to shoot an unarmed man in the back while he is running away.

The taser isn't even designed to be used in extreme close quarters to control an unruly person, what an idiot!

Well now you're just straight up lying. Brooks was armed. He had a sidearm in his hand. That is the definition of "armed". I know you're trying a woke gimmick to try to get over with people on social media (or maybe this is the only way you can feel intellectually superior to people), but don't do further damage to what reputation you have left by dishonestly trying to argue that Brooks wasn't armed.

Dennis this case is DOA already . It shouldn’t even make trial . That DA is more incompetent than Kimm Foxx.

Assuming a comparable number of victims last year, those nine unarmed black victims of police shootings represent 0.1% of all African-Americans killed in 2019.

By contrast, a police officer is 18½ times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male is to be killed by a police officer.

I agree with the implication of your post that the rhetoric of the day needs to change. However, I don't see how you can look at the methods used by police in just the last month and believe the way the operate doesn't need adjustment.
Are you not fine with officers using deadly force to stop a suspect who fired a taser at them from close range and continued to point the taser at a pursuing officer as he fled? What needs to change about that?

where was the taser being aimed and from what distance in relation to the police officer when he pulled his gun out of his holster and raised it?

Image

The taser is clearly being pointed in the direction of the pursuing officer in this frame, and the officer has his weapon raised and aimed at Brooks in his right hand. Brooks fired the taser when he was about even (from the perspective of the camera) with the left-rear tire of the red car from a distance of 3-5 feet, and in the frame above I'd estimate that distance as 15-20 feet.

Here is the frame where Brooks fired the taser at the officer, you can see the officer's right hand on his weapon. As the video rolls from this frame, the officer veers left to avoid the shot and get some amount of cover behind the red vehicle, and while doing so he removes his weapon from its holster.

Image

For the entirety of the time between Brooks firing the taser shot at the officer pursuing him and the officer firing, Brooks kept the taser pointed in the direction of that officer.

These photos are nothing but a blatant lie posted by a scumbag.

Just re-watched the video and the lie is obvious. Juice is claiming that these still show the cop with his gun, but the truth is they show the cop with his taser. When the drunk shot is taser, the cop was still holding his own taser. Notice where the cop is in relation the red car in the stills. In the video you can see that the cop is actually past the red car when he fires his gun, you can tell this by watching Brooks fall when teh shots are fired. At the time he was shot he was running away and was not pointing a spent taser at the police officer.

He had a used taser at a range where it doesn't even work. That's not a weapon. It's a paper weight. And at the moment the office pulled his gun the drunk was no longer even pointing it at him and was running in the opposite direction.

The only liar in this thread is you, the guy who posted screen shots of an officer

The only liar here is the admitted racist and biggot who knowingly posted inaccurate information here based on a deceptive description of the screen shots.

At the time he was shot he was running away and was not pointing a spent taser at the police officer.
The top photo (where the cop is even with the left-rear tire of the red car) shows the officer has his gun out. He drops the taser he was carrying when Brooks fired his own taser from the left-rear tire position and pulls his gun from its holster as he proceeds to the position depicted above, where he has the gun fully extended in his right arm and begins firing.

In the audio of the body/dash cam videos, there is a 1.1 second difference between when Brooks is heard firing his taser shot and the officer firing at Brooks.

Image Image

Here is the frame of the wide angle video the moment Brooks fires his taser shot at the officer pursuing him:

Image

And here is the video 1.1 seconds later, which is when shots are heard being fired:

Image

So, yes that is a gun in the officer's right hand extended out, and yes he did begin to fire shots when he was even with the left-rear tire of the red car, and the moment he began to fire, Brooks was still clearly pointing his own weapon at the officer.

EDIT: Google Earth puts no more than 80 feet between the position of the downed body cam (and mic) and shooting instances, which makes the speed of sound negligible in lining up the sound with video (maximum .069 seconds). Regardless, the required shift due to the time it took sound to travel to the body camera would be to earlier frames in the video, not later ones.

EDIT 2: Changed second image to 3 frames later to fully account for differences in 30 fps timecoding.

Brooks may have technically been outside the rated "effective range" of the X2 if he was 18 feet away when he was shot, but the difference between the effective range (15 feet) and Brooks' position is negligible to the naked eye, especially in an adrenaline-fueled chase that just saw a taser shot at your face from well within that effective range.

I have posted irrefutable evidence that this is not the case. That is, it is irrefutable unless you're now going to try to argue that the police officer traveled through time to fire his weapon.

It would be impossible for me to "admit" racism and bigotry because I'm neither a racist nor a bigot.

So where are we at now ? We’ve found out from the guy trying this case that a) a taser is a deadly weapon b) A kick he claimed happened very possibly didn’t actually happen . What’s going to actually stick in this case ? Seems like a dog and pony show right now .

From nbc5.

Chicago police say that nine people, including a young child and three teenagers, have been killed and at least 54 others have been wounded in shootings across the city as of Sunday.

And it's only Sunday afternoon! Where are the fathers? Where is the outrage, and protest marches?

Good post. This proves there is no need for police reform. Time to lock this thread.

From Fox News- Monday June 22 2020

Chicago recorded at least 11 killed and 67 wounded during an outbreak of violence, according to Fox 32. The deaths included a 3-year-old and a 13-year-old girl. The teenage girl was home Saturday night when she was struck in the neck from the shot fired from outside. She was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

CBS Chicago reported that eight of those shot were children and teens, four of them died. The 3-year old was with his stepfather at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday when he was struck in the back. Witnesses told the station that the gunfire came from a blue Honda.

“Tears are a natural reaction to these tragic stories of violence. But we need to do more than just cry,” Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said. “Let’s keep violent offenders in jail longer, and let’s revamp the home monitoring system. It’s not working.”

Our city's collective heart breaks to hear the unfathomable news of a 3-year-old boy who was shot and killed tonight on Chicago's West Side. There are simply no words to describe such a heinous, unconscionable act of cowardice to shoot at a toddler.

I don't kneel. I feel like the guy who doesn't wear the ribbon but I kneel for my God.

It wasn't a protest as much as a rally, as you would expect from a gathering of attorneys. We walked over to the federal jail. It was kind of cool as the prisoners were knocking on the thick windows as part of the demonstration. There were younger people there though who were a little overzealous in their speech. It was the end but when they started chanting "free them all" I knew it was time to leave. I don't think even the members of the defense bar think that is a good proposal.
