We’re being hunted . Defund the police . Significant change must happen !! Police are the problem !!
Assuming a comparable number of victims last year, those nine unarmed black victims of police shootings represent 0.1% of all African-Americans killed in 2019.
By contrast, a police officer is 18½ times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male is to be killed by a police officer.
I agree with the implication of your post that the rhetoric of the day needs to change. However, I don't see how you can look at the methods used by police in just the last month and believe the way the operate doesn't need adjustment.
Are you not fine with officers using deadly force to stop a suspect who fired a taser at them from close range and continued to point the taser at a pursuing officer as he fled? What needs to change about that?
where was the taser being aimed and from what distance in relation to the police officer when he pulled his gun out of his holster and raised it?
The taser is clearly being pointed in the direction of the pursuing officer in this frame, and the officer has his weapon raised and aimed at Brooks in his right hand. Brooks fired the taser when he was about even (from the perspective of the camera) with the left-rear tire of the red car from a distance of 3-5 feet, and in the frame above I'd estimate that distance as 15-20 feet.
Here is the frame where Brooks fired the taser at the officer, you can see the officer's right hand on his weapon. As the video rolls from this frame, the officer veers left to avoid the shot and get some amount of cover behind the red vehicle, and while doing so he removes his weapon from its holster.
For the entirety of the time between Brooks firing the taser shot at the officer pursuing him and the officer firing, Brooks kept the taser pointed in the direction of that officer.
These photos are nothing but a blatant lie posted by a scumbag.
Just re-watched the video and the lie is obvious. Juice is claiming that these still show the cop with his gun, but the truth is they show the cop with his taser. When the drunk shot is taser, the cop was still holding his own taser. Notice where the cop is in relation the red car in the stills. In the video you can see that the cop is actually past the red car when he fires his gun, you can tell this by watching Brooks fall when teh shots are fired. At the time he was shot he was running away and was not pointing a spent taser at the police officer.
The top photo (where the cop is even with the left-rear tire of the red car) shows the officer has his gun out. He drops the taser he was carrying when Brooks fired his own taser from the left-rear tire position and pulls his gun from its holster as he proceeds to the position depicted above, where he has the gun fully extended in his right arm and begins firing.
In the audio of the body/dash cam videos, there is a 1.1 second difference between when Brooks is heard firing his taser shot and the officer firing at Brooks.
Here is the frame of the wide angle video the moment Brooks fires his taser shot at the officer pursuing him:
And here is the video 1.1 seconds later, which is when shots are heard being fired:
So, yes that is a gun in the officer's right hand extended out, and yes he did begin to fire shots when he was even with the left-rear tire of the red car, and the moment he began to fire, Brooks was still clearly pointing his own weapon at the officer.
EDIT: Google Earth puts no more than 80 feet between the position of the downed body cam (and mic) and shooting instances, which makes the speed of sound negligible in lining up the sound with video (maximum .069 seconds). Regardless, the required shift due to the time it took sound to travel to the body camera would be to earlier frames in the video, not later ones.
EDIT 2: Changed second image to 3 frames later to fully account for differences in 30 fps timecoding.
