Young kids and toddlers getting shot. Nothing gets done to protest it in the black community unless Father Pfleger gets the ball rolling.

Were you out on the streets protesting it? Or just whining on the internet about how other people weren't?

Father Pfleger's not making a fortune off the woeful black plight, like its own leaders.

Interesting not one word of condolences for the Chicago black on black shooting victims from their own people here. Doesn't suit the not our fault narrative?

What makes you think that offering condolences to the increasingly bigoted crowd here is anything other than a waste of time and effort? Isn't your sick grave dancing enough for you here?

If Blacks lives really matter (of course they do), then there are a lot of conversations we (meaning this country) needs to have. None are mutually exclusive and most do not involve deaths. In fact, I suspect that addressing these would help reduce much of the black on black violence and the blue on black violence.

-Better public education with a push towards more technical training in high school.
-Emhasis on two parent households (whites need this one too).
-Public and private investment in poorer neighborhoods. Not even sure how we do this one. But I would rather see banks than payday loan and currency exchanges and grocery stores instead of dollar and convenience stores.
-Reduction in the lock em mentality. I think more drug legalization or decriminlaization would be a great start. It would be awesome to rid this country of drug violence by legalizing stuff. A tough task for sure.

That’s my starter list.

Forget defunding the police for a moment...we need to defund the public school system and start over.

Operational spending per pupil in CPS is almost $16k per year. So for an average class of 30 students, almost half a million dollars are spent. Now imagine you were designing a system from scratch and had a $500k budget to educate 30 students. Let's say you pay the teacher $150k, all in. That leaves $350k. You could rent a beautiful, spacious, modern classroom, outfitted with state of the art desks and tech, in some office park, for less than $100k per year. That leaves $250k. Use another $50k for sports programs, arts, extracurriculars, etc. You're probably not even at $300k total.

Working from the bottom up illustrates the absolutely monumental waste of taxpayer money we are throwing at the current centralized system.

Well the NYC charter model has worked pretty well, but we all know the politics of this. There is no way charters are going to fly over traditional public schools with the big city mayors.

It says 13k per pupil right on the page for the average. Some schools in CPS are above that though.

Yeah, not sure why that shows 13k but the pdf shows 15.6k. Whether it's $400k or $500k dollars being spent per 30 kids, it's way too much.

As my kids finished private high school, we were paying about $11,000 per kid. But the big difference is those teachers are way underpaid relative to the public school market. I don’t think the answer is paying teachers a whole lot less. In fact, the Finland model that has worked so well is paying them a shit done more. But in return, it is very tough to become a teacher. Top talent there flocks to the industry because of the pay and prestige much like doctors in the U.S.

We have an irrational hate for teachers here. I'll never until it. Slurp cops every chance we get, but curse the very people who are partially responsible for educating and babysitting our kids.

"Slurp cops" while one poster makes terror threats and about a dozen come out of the woodwork to defend him every time its brought up.

Tons of special education professionals and other various support people will eat that up.

I'm not suggesting those are not needed.

Same officer was acquitted by a judge after he beat and knocked out of a teenager's teeth with his gun because of a bag of weed 6 years ago.

Lot of diddlers in teaching.
