"Look at the police protecting someone from being assaulted for their political views!"

What do they want the cop to do?

There's been times I've asked a teacher at a conference how she teaches a certain concept and I get back a bunch of stuttering. These are the teachers that send a bunch of homework home. These are the teachers that piss and moan about parents not being involved. I already have a job and I don't want a second one teaching. I'm the homework checker, not the homework teacher. I mean, I'll do it, but don't expect me to sit quietly at a conference. I want to get down to the bottom of why little nardi is clueless about his homework. Is it little nardi or is it Ms Ashley? So I ask pointed questions that aren't appreciated by the teachers that don't know what they're doing.

She sounds hot

Listen, everyone is a little bit racist, but if we disappeared the most racist people I think everyone will be cool after that.

Yep, you don't even need cable.

Educator stock way up since the start of the Coronavirus. Definitely a bull market as far as teachers are concerned.

People will still fight over scarce resources and attach meaning to some characteristics of the out-group. So we'll have to have second, third, fourth (and so on) rounds of murdering.

Yeah, on second thought, I don’t know if the mob can be placated.

"Think the way I want you to or get murdered" sounds GREAT! A society centered on that way of thinking can't possibly go wrong!

Your math is off. If it was .1% that would be 36 million.

There are 10 million arrests every year and according to available data 80% are for petty crimes. Disorderly conduct is the most popular one. I imagine most of the contacts are traffic related.

Its really hard to do this if you're going to get basic math so wrong. 36 million is 1% of 360 million, you can verify this very simply by multiply 36 million by 100.

.1% of 360 million is 360,000. If you dont believe me you can use a calculator to prove it.

I'm an idiot. I play with numbers all day too.

On the positive side, at least you proved the importance of competent math teachers to society.

Teachers have it SO MUCH HARDER than cops do!

They perform a job far more important to our future and get absolutely no respect. Teachers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cops

No respect?

Name another job where a good percentage of your customers give you a thank you card and gift 2 or more times each year.

I have plenty of respect for teachers despite the experience of the last few months. They are always on the list of people thrown into the regular "they are heroes" public conversation.

Those are bribes! Seriously, there are several teachers that I liked a lot, but I've never given a gift without thinking about how it may benefit my child.

Even your "respect" comes with a few slaps across the face. For some odd reason the police are above reproach to MANY.

I think that's painting with a broad brush. I was a public high school teacher for my and first 3 years out of college. It was a great experience. I learned a lot. I was good at it, but I saw fairly early that an entire career of teaching was going to make me a miserable human being so I went to grad school at night and started a new career.

I think the irrational hate or if you want to use a more accurate term like "contempt" or "indifference" or "disregard" stems from the fact that as a group, teachers have loudly complained over the years about being underpaid. You show me a room of 20 teachers and I'll point out at least 10 miserable adults. That's fine, except their profession is chosen. No one forces anyone to become a teacher. It's an honest, respectable profession, but I also don't find teachers to be the saviors many think they are. For many it becomes a coast job with a lot of time off and stable money. I've known many that are wonderful, committed people that do love children and take that role very seriously. Unfortunately, I've seen and experienced just as many that are just along for the ride.

If your experience is different than mine, I'm happy for you. Like anything, it's a career. If that's your calling....great. If it's not....do something else. The pay and benefits associated with being a teacher or pretty clearly stated up front and I don't see very few teachers struggling to make a living.

I'm just comparing how this community and the public view teachers in comparison to cops or even firemen. We love cops and firemen and NEVER complain about salary increases for them. Firemen only work 2 or 3 days a week too. It's become teachers = democrats and cops/firemen = republicans for MANY.

The white kid clearly had more grit and determination. His cerebral approach when combined with the grit got him that seat at the table. The black kid clearly didn't get the most of out his potential and there are questions about his work ethic despite prodigious raw talent. It's a shame this generation is taught to celebrate baggy shorts and vulgar slang instead of hard work and respect for authority.

The teachers who tend to bitch the most are the ones that do nothing outside of the school day. They do not coach, run clubs or activities. They are also the ones on facebook bitching about how much work they do at home. Our my favorite, cheering for a snow day then complaining in June when we have to make them up.

This isn't about teachers complaining.

It's about people complaining that teachers are over paid when they get the summer off.
