The long term planning around this is almost diabolical . Someone had the genius idea to fashion a hand-size noose at some point a year or two ago knowing FULL WELL that the only black NASCAR driver would someday be assigned to that very garage and to cloak it in being used as a “ rope pull” to open and close the garage door until Bubba saw it was next level , 4D chess .

Can we just go back to ignoring this dying and increasingly dull "sport"?

its not dull if you go to the track and watch in person. with technology now you would think they could do a lot better job making it seem more interesting on tv. hell, the NFL sucks to watch live in comparison to TV. its all how you broadcast it.

The race on Monday was one of the best in years.

It was a good race.

I recommend everyone go see at least one NASCAR race in their life. It's an experience of culture (some of it is good) and power and speed.

That is definitely on my bucket list to do.

A few years ago we were at a track in Florida where they were doing testing. The power and speed of that was insane, I can only imagine what a race with everyone there would be like.

We were able to be right on the backstretch with an RV. We were covered in rubber.

I will say, to be honest, it ranks lower on my life experiences covered in rubber but it was still great to be there.

And, let's be real, for all my life experiences covered in rubber, they were all great to be there.

Just spitballing here, but in that video, the rope appears to be close to the ground. Meaning, clearly meant for someone to tug on and way too low to hang anyone but a midget. It also means lots of people must have seen it in the interim as it has been there since at least October.

But it is tied like a noose from the video, so there’s that.

Joliet. We had an RV about 35 feet from the middle of the backstretch on the other side of the maintenance road up against the fence.

Bad things probably could have happened but I always feel like that kind of stuff happens more in the turns or the finish line.

Plus, I was "feeling good" and thought I would live forever at that time.

It was cool, though - even though we got covered in marbles.

Nice. I thought I had a chance to go to Kansas speedway once, but the tickets fell thru.

You can’t get a sense of the speed and loudness without being there in person. It was way cooler than I thought it would be. And it’s easier to follow what’s going on than you’d think.

There are also videos out there of the Talladega garages from a few years ago—MANY of those pits had the same sort of loop tie.

Wallace also initially stated he hadn’t seen the “noose,” but someone from his crew did. Now he says there was no mistaking it as a noose. Not sure how he ever saw it.

Only sport I can think of where the front row is really the worst seat.

The main thing I remember about first time I went to a NASCAR race was how real and loud it was. We had great seats due to corporate connection but I walked down lower as the warm up laps started. And it was so loud at the Brickyard 400 and I was transfixed as I watched #3 actually come by me. It was something even if I don’t really try hard to go back.

My dad always complained about watching races on tv, gave him motion sickness or something but said going to the races was a great experience. Guess my mom and him would hit the tracks in Germany when he was stationed there. Motorcycle races were his favorite. But god forbid I want to watch the Indy 500 in the living room.

But not really because every knot that is tied with loops is not a noose... if you pull on it, does the knot shut on your hand? If not, it isn't a noose. It may look like a noose, but it is not tied like a noose, to the extent that the functionality is there. If the argument is you shouldn't even have something that resembles a noose, maybe I would buy that a little bit, but you have to stop calling it a noose because it isn't a noose... it looks like a no-slip loop knot, certainly too big to put someone's head in, and you can't enlarge the loop after you've tied it.

You should definitely wear ear plugs. My ears rang for 3 days a couple years ago after the Chicagoland race. I've worn ear plugs since.

First thing I remember is walking up the stairs to the fence nearest the track at Michigan and Rusty Wallace came by during a practice run and it was like a tornado going by. The speed and loudness immediately struck me. That was '98. Think I have been to every Chicagoland race except for 1. It's nice that you don't have to buy the track pass anymore which was all 4 races. Races are great in person even if it is a relatively boring race. The speed and sound is something you must see in person. Plus, tailgating and people watching is always fun. And it's free parking and you can bring in a small cooler. My tickets last year were $70 each iirc. Pretty reasonable.

The head of Nascar stated that they checked garage stalls at 29 tracks that host Nascar races. Of the 1684 stalls, 11 pull-down ropes were tied in a knot and one was fashioned as a noose- the one in Wallace's stall. If people still have a problem with what Nascar did, the problem is them.

Maybe the head of NASCAR should check and see who assigned the lone black driver to that garage.
