Pretty sure that you can get your car towed if you don't pay your registration fee. That isn't a fine.

Not having poor people lose their ability to get to work because they got a ticket that is half their paycheck is a good thing.

Injuring someone because you were texting still comes with a criminal penalty.

I agree with your friend. On a busy street (like Western), I think a pedestrian should yield to cars and bikes regardless of crosswalk, unless there is a light or stop sign regulating it.

That's awful. Being next to a semi is a situation you definitely want to avoid. Riding like you are invisible and staying out of blind spots requires active riding. Completely different mindset than driving a car that far too many riders don't understand. Not saying that is the case here, but I see it all the time.

Yeah, I don't even like driving my f250 next to semis, unless I'm passing or it's bumper to bumper.

I totally understand why Harley riders have the loud pipes.

This is why government keeps expanding. We (should) all agree that there needs to be consequences for non-compliance of the law. Suggestions that we garnish wages or have tax refunds held back only overcomplicates things as now you need two or three government agencies working together to monitor the people who don't pay.

I would be open to not suspending the license until two or three delinquent tickets. There has to be some negative incentive.

Just do away with fines or traffic laws for people below a certain income level .

Attempting to balance a budget on the backs of the poor and then taking away their ability to feed their family is extreme. A petty violation shouldn't cost anyone everything.

There have been efforts in other countries (Switzerland?) to charge based on income. I think some guy got a speeding ticket and had to pay $3k based on his salary. I don't think that would fly here.

I know some of this comes down to poverty, but some might come down to people never having been disciplined by a parent. A parent can ground you if you are misbehaving. Maybe people need to be grounded by the government....no TV for a month.

This is a good one. I ALWAYS stop at a crosswalk for pedestrians. The problem often is that many of them are so surprised a motorist actually followed the law that they just stand there like dopes. Either that or they don't even know what a crosswalk marking means. And if a street has four lanes the driving public has pretty much decided that nullifies the crosswalk law. Good luck trying to cross Western Avenue in rush hour. I actually had a friend argue with me that you don't have to stop for pedestrians on a "busy" street.

Agreed. I always stop, but its annoying when you stop on Irving Park and all the cars in the lane next to you continue to fly by.

In some communities people will walk a little quicker when they see a car trying to turn. In other communities they'll walk a little slower when they notice you trying to turn. I like to rev the engine in those situations.

The only noteworthy thing the gays ever do is be gay. Their entire existence revolves around their fetish.

American culture is the work of blacks, gays, and Jews, that's gotta count for something.

It's a "win the battle but lose the war" situation. You're perfectly in your rights to cross in front of vehicles. Good luck spending that lawsuit money when you get pancaked by a truck.

you say the most goddamn stupidest shit.

Cars ALWAYS should have the right of way. Pedestrians should heed cars. Just like a car should heed a semi-truck.

I mean fuck, when did people stop believeing in LOOKING OUT FOR YOURSELF??

you basically proved my point on why it's a dumb law.

exactly. I mean if you wanna cross the street, go ahead. Make sure there are no cars and do it. If u want cars to stop, put up a stop sign. This crosswalk thing is BS. Just slows shit down for no reason.

I have never stopped at a crosswalk. Probably because most of the time I dont notice it's there. I only know they exist because I've come across them as a pedestrian. And even then I think it is dumb. Cars should have the right away , at least where I come from, they do.

This wasnt even a crosswalk situation, this was just me once about to cross a neighborhood street. Car is coming, and predictably he stops. I yelled at him "GO!!!, why the hell are you stopping!?" He replied "I'm just trying to be nice". WTF? So dumb! The road is meant for cars, YOU have the right of way, just go! I can look out for myself and decide when it's safe to cross.

Crosswalks must be a city thing. It just makes no sense to me. Seems like another excuse to blame drivers for pedestrians that are dumb and get hit.

it just fucks up the system. Cars have the right of way. Just go. Theyll figure out how and when to cross.

They should only have right of way at stoplights and shit.

My wife and I almost got wiped out by a double trailer rig coming back from Oregon yesterday. The driver of the rig must have assumed that I took a exit off the freeway but we didn't and he claimed the entire lane to himself and didn't see us there. He didn't miss us by very much and we had nowhere to go but into the concrete abutment. I can't imagine what bike riders experience.
