Yeah, that would be ridiculous if she does get $400m, plus she has her own legal career (even if it were a DiCaro legal career).

Doesn't matter...that is just divorce. It doesn't matter who earned what. The accumulated wealth of $800 million or whatever was created as a marital asset. she gets half of it.

The only bright side for him is that the children are legal adults. The child support would have really tipped the scale. He'll have to fork over some maintenance money for a time, but he'll get over it. The moral of the story here is....it's cheaper to keep her.

What the world needs now is more stories that tangentially involve Sedale Threatt.

I'm not questioning the $400m--I was saying that if she did get $400m, it's pretty greedy to then also ask for alimony. But the law is the law...

Not sure what additional maintenance she would need with $400M. I celebrate the few times men return the favor.

Maybe not the returning the favor, but certainly the scalded cats bitching about it in hypocritical indignation.

I'd say the moral of the story is never get married.

Dr Dre will be fine with only having $400 million dollars.

Where is Spiral Stairs when you need him? Can someone explain the difference between marital property and "his shit" to Golden Jet? Oh, I see Big W already did.

And I don't know about California law, but if they were in Illinois he'd likely be paying her maintenance for the rest of her life.

Speaking of divorce, Jeff Bezos's net worth has just topped $170 billion, an all-time record after he had given his ex-wife her share.

States vary, but quite honestly the net result doesn't change much. The bottom line is all assets get cut in half and if one person earns significantly more than the other....that person is going to be paying to balance out the net income.

312Player....The moral of the story isn't never get married. ....it's IF you're going to marry make sure your spouse earns equal or greater. THAT was my big mistake the first time around. What I find interesting is that even with paying a ridiculous amount of money in child support and maintenance....I ended up with more disposable income. One....it did force me to go find a better paying job, but Two....the amount I paid my ex was fixed....I no longer had to deal with her "emergencies" and highly inefficient spending habits. Man...she was great at blowing $200 at a grocery store and having very little to show for it.

I think it should also be pointed out most of his net worth is from Beats by Dre. He was already married to her for 10 years when they debuted.

She's going to take half of something when the entire thing was done during your marriage.

I also don't know about California law, but in IL she'd be a candidate for maintenance based on the length of their marriage. However, because their marital estate is in the multiple millions of dollars maintenance might not make sense. He could buy her out, so to speak, by giving her a greater share of the marital estate. But if maintenance is still tax deductible in CA, it may make more sense to pay her that money rather than give her a larger cut of the estate.

yeah, everything is negotiable. I've seen people agree to pay more in child support to protect retirement. I agreed to pay more in child support and to pay less in maintenance for my ex to save on tax impact. The only thing I got out of it was an uncontested divorce finalized in 6 months  She'll get half of everything in some way shape or form.

The one guideline I was given for maintenance / alimony is 1/3 of your total years of marriage.

They revised the IMDMA in 2016. I can't tell you the exact guidelines for duration of maintenance off the top of my head but Spiral probably can. There's a graduated scale. Of course, a judge can do whatever he or she wants in the end. I know after 20 years of marriage the Court can award maintenance indefinitely. 750 ILCS 5/504.
