On Monday I noticed that the LaSalle Street store was empty and the Michigan Avenue store boarded up. I figured it was due to the riots, but apparently it was more economic. They had been struggling with the move to casual wear as people bought fewer suits, but looks like work-from-home is the nail in the coffin.

Good. Wearing suits every day as a way to control workers deserves to end.

It used to be what people would wear every day.

My grandfather bought me a “nice” brown herringbone (I think that’s the term) blazer there in the mid/late 80s. Why thst color? Gotta think it was on sale knowing that man.

Even to baseball games.

Yep! I love stupid t-shirts and jeans as much as anyone, but I don't think they're appropriate for some places of work. I even get dressed from the waist up for a Zoom call.

Never found it uncomfortable when I had to wear them as long as everything fit well. Sitting at a baseball game or some of the old time gentleman farmer pictures of guys in fields with short ties. Pass.

Suits are really as comfortable as any other currently acceptable business clothing. I have summer weight suits that are as cool and light as shorts. A tie is only an impediment to a fat necked person.

Their customer service had become very inconsistent. It was shit at Old Orchard and bad on Michigan but it was phenomenal at The Rookery. I'm sure it will be back.

They sold suits for men, not european cuts for dandies and pufters

Generally, the staff was good about matching the suit, tie, and shirt to get a colorblind fashion poor fool like me looking decent. I always got compliments on the suits. They fit nice and held up. Definitely worth the money if you had meetings with important people.

Makes me wish that I'd have gone in on getting my oldest son a few items from there for Christmas. Mainly business casual stuff to supplement the stuff he primarily wears now.

I think all I got there for myself were a couple of ties and shirts. Probably still have ties somewhere.

I'll tell they Judge that he can't control me. Seriously though, I hate that I have to wear a suit to Court when it's 90+ degrees and humid and female attorneys show up in a "blouse" that is basically a T-shirt, a skirt, and sandals.

I thought that was one of the selling points to going to mundane motion calls.

Their no wrinkle button down shirts are great. Once you get the right fit, you can just order them online. They hold up well even if you don’t use dry clean. I haven’t had good luck with their khakis though. They never seem to fit well. The suits always fit great once their tailors are done with them.

Nothing more initially undervalued than a fine tailor.

But frankly I never felt right in an English cut suit. Especially when I was still in fighting trim.

I hate the English cut, frankly kind of gay and too European. You are spot on with the tailor comment. It makes wearing a suit so much more comfortable.

Sounds like I need to practice in Cook County. Can I wear shorts?

Some of the younger female attorneys I see at the Daley Center look like they're ready for the club rather than the courtroom.

I never shopped at Brooks Brothers, I'm not their demographic.

Anybody who needs to go to a place like DXL (or RIP M. Hyman, Irv's or Manny's) for their clothes and still needs dress shirts and dress pants for work or worship in this culture really needs to look at custom made stuff. Start with the dress shirts. Hemrajani used to come to Chicago, Oak Brook, and Northbrook three times a year pre-COVID, they have production in Kowloon and in the New Territories. Joe is retired, but his son Divaj is pretty sharp.
