Police forces in the USA aren't militarized just because they have an old MRAP in the garage that is such an albatross even the DOD doesn't want to deal with it anymore. In fact police forces in France (which literally has a military police) and Germany project way more force than American cops, and they have a fraction of America's violent crime rate. Ever heard of the Guardia Civil? They make your average CPD officer look like Mr. Rogers.

I do agree though, its stupid to eliminate police. Too bad that's obvious what's going to happen one way or another.

you need to drop whatever delusions you are under that the USA is not one of the most crime ridden countries on earth. even the statistics (which aren't pretty) are obviousy fraudulent and dramatically underscore the epidemic of violent crime in the USA.

considering that your options are A) heavily armed police or B) corrupt police that dont give a fuck, like you'd find in South Africa, Ukraine or Belarus.

There's a difference between your everyday officer and a member of an elite task force...at least there should be.

The Gendarmes and Guardia Civil are everywhere in France and Spain. They are everyday officers on the highways and in the countryside, and they are literally members of the military. As far as militarization of police goes it does not get any more militarized than that.

Yet rural France and rural Spain have some of the lowest crime rates in the world. And let me tell you, these are not wealthy places. There's not a lot of money in Picardie these days.
