It's a bullshit year. I'm not holding anything against anyone. His absence benefits the Sox long term with controlling him and we have enough starting pitching to cover this season.

His service time has dropped way down the list of concerns.

I haven't seen yet whether he will still get his service time this year. If he is still considered injured from Tommy John he will get it.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with his mental health unless COVID has caused some kind of psychological incident. He hasn't stated his reason for not working this year so I can't analyze the supportability of the decision.

I think requiring a written opt out was the owner's way of ensuring it is not considered injury. He could have opted in and claimed lack of health.

A 24 year old athlete shouldn't be scared of this virus. He's a head-case or knows he can't pass a piss-test anyways this year. Pollyanna it all you want. He's a bust.

I don't know about him being a bust but this really is a very strange situation. If he is "jaking" it, I think he will be sorry. If he truly is mentally fucked up, then I hope he gets helped. Either way, I wouldn't count on the guy going forward.

Carrie Woods had 71 wins as a starter for the Cubs.

Ill take the over on Kopech wins if we set the over under at 71.

Co-Pitch will have to play into his mid-40's then, if he ever does decide to play.

What an idiot. Kopech is a mess. He won't top Mark Prior's 42 wins.

I think Kerry Wood had 80 wins and 35 saves as a Cub.

EDIT- I see you aren't giving credit for wins if he didn't start.

It is a bullshit season, but you're not even a little disappointed to see this happen? You don't think management and his teammates are at least a little disappointed? They'll say all the right things, but I think he's fallen a couple of pegs in their estimation.

I don't think it's a bullshit season. It's a different season, of course, but they're there to compete and win just like any other season.

But the other points, I completely agree. Publicly, you say "the right thing". Privately, there's probably varying opinions.

Hopefully he's back in February...and they all are. And then his teammates can shove their well-earned World Series rings in his face April 8th.

This was my list:

1. Depression and or Anxiety
2. Doesn't wanna get covid
3. Issues with wife
4. Wife is preggers
5. Doesnt wanna be a RP
6. Doesn't wanna put extra strain on his arm in the shortened year.

Not St*ve C*shek told me:

Correct. Multiple reasons. Mental health not one of them

He’ll be ready to go next year

Your reply to my tweet got most of them.

I hate to say it but he’s just being a pussy. I’ve been a pussy in my life before and sometimes still am. I don’t announce it publicly. I grant him that. But I’ve takin time from work to enter rehab 12 years ago and I certainly didn’t want people to know why the extended absence was occurring but I was still being a pussy by not being straightforward. It’s ok we are all pussies sometimes.

We really do not know much about this guy other than pure speculation. I do think that there are mental issues but how severe are they? The fact that he has a cannon for an arm does mean of course that you do have to play it out. If this guy was just another guy, he'd be gone by now.

Not me. I think that if this guy makes it, it will be as a reliever. There have been a lot more "colorful types" in the bigs as relievers than starting pitchers. He is going to be an interesting guy to follow.

We are going to possibly have 2 shortened seasons and a strike. I don't think we are going to see him pitch in a Sox uniform again.
