What's your favorite fast food place? The one that would disappoint you the most if it went away.

Giving a qualifier. Chipolte and Portillos don't count. Or other places like that. I consider those to be upscale fast food.

I'm talking about places you can get something for $1 or $2 dollars. The cheap places. You know what I mean.

Mine would be Taco Bell.

I like Taco Bell way more than the hamburger joints.

Just thought I'd come up with a topic.

My volume of Taco Bell purchases went down dramatically when they discontinued the Caramel Apple Empanada. The only things I buy there now are the $1 Tostada and whatever the $5 box happens to be if I like the contents.

But most of my Taco Bell purchases used to be at 1:30am on my way home from arriving half awake at O'Hare from a business trip, because the Taco Bell (which I suspect may also be Dr. Ken's Taco Bell location was on my drive home.

I think TBs $1 breakfast burrito is not as good as McDonalds. But it's good enough. I think it's more for less, though. It's a bigger portions for less. $1 compared to $1.50 at Mcdonalds. Not that the 50 cents will kill you. Just saying it's a better deal.

There used to be a house on our block that we thought was haunted, because you'd hear screaming inside and because people who went inside never came out. Later we found out it was just a murderer's house.

Can we just save everyone a bunch of time and end every prescription drug commercial with “this might kill you - decent chance”?

One day back when I was a kid my house got hit by lightning. I was in maybe the 4th grade. When it happened I was in school. My parents were at work.
You older guys might remember bathroom wall paper that was like backed with metal, almost like foil. Probably to protect the walls from the steam from the shower.
Anyway when I got home every receptacle in the house was burned. Not a damn think that was plugged in worked anymore.
The bathroom walls had these burned and melted lines going nearly perfectly horizontally around the entire room, spaced evenly at about 3 inches. The electrician who came to rewire the entire house said that bathroom must have glowed brightly and anyone that was in there would have been killed.

Two years later I was in the dining room and the tree in the back got hit by lightning. It was just a few feet from the corner of the house that got hit. I dropped to the floor even before I heard the sound. Ive never heard anything so loud. My teeth rattled. The strike was maybe 8 feet from where I was standing. Blew a honey locust into two pieces.

A year later the neighbor across the street got hit, blew out a huge section of their attic, venting it to the elements until the whole roof could be rebuilt.

3 years later the neighbor behind them got hit.

If you drew a line between all those lightling strikes it makes a perfect straight line.

I was driving down a country road as a kid when all the hairs on my arm suddenly stood up straight. I thought "this is weird" and a second later lightning hit about 5 feet away from my car in the ditch.

20 years ago when we moved to the farm my wife an I were taking a nap on a warm summer day as the bedroom was one of two rooms having ac. A storm rolled in but not a big one but ally the sudden an explosion went off over our heads and there was the smell of an electrical fire. Damn lightning hit a lightning rod right over our heads and smoked the cable down to the ground rode burning off the paint and dust that was on it. Grounding Cable went from white to black. First time I had ever lived in a house with lightning rods.

Christ, these lightning stories are impressive. Especially Darkside who has had 4 or 5 times with lightning. That might be a record as far as up close experiences.

I've never had lightning near me. Not close at least. I can remember seeing it maybe 200 yards away as I looked out the window. But that's about it with me and lightning.

None of these garbage fast food places would disappoint me if they went away. If it wasn't for getting my kids a Happy Meal or Burger King every so often, it would literally be years since I have eaten at places like that. Now I love me some Portillo's, The Patio, Pop's beef, Mickey's, Chinese takeout, and stuffed pizza and get upscale carry-out once every couple weeks but cheap, shitty hamburgers or tacos? Keep it.
