Before this I had only seen Iron Man, Avengers, Black Panther, Infinity War and End Game.

Iron Man- Great, best one so far. 4 Stars
Iron Man 2- Very Good 3.5 Stars
Hulk- Skipped (not available)
Thor- I really enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Solid. 3.5 Stars
The Avengers- My favorite one to this point-5 Stars
Thor Dark World- Bad. Worst one so far. 1 Star
Captain America Winter Soldier- Very Good 3.5 Stars



Guardian of the Galaxy up next. Not really thinking Ill love that one, didnt care for their parts of Infinity or End Game. Chris Pratt has an annoying face

I cant keep track of what is MCU and what isnt though. Is Deadpool considered part of it?

The second one is even better IMHO.

It is MCU, but they decided not to include him in the Avengers movies.

Deadpool and all the X men movies are not part of the MCU.

Disney bought Fox last year, and is going to bring their own version of the x men to the MCU in 3 or 4 years.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is the only actor they are bringing over from Fox.

I was surprised by how much I liked the Guardians movies.

I think you underrate the Captain America movies. I think the first one is maybe half a star behind Iron Man.

Chronological order of events. First Avenger is in the 40s, Captain Marvel takes place in the 90s, etc

GOTG 1 was shockingly fantastic. I've probably watched it 20x now with the kids. GOTG2 was not as good imho...still very solid.

well that's stupid. Ya know, they're in an order for a reason. Also, the after credit scenes won't make much sense if you watch them in the wrong order.


Shit, you might as well be watching them in alphabetical order. That would be just as stupid.

Maybe next you can rewatch Pulp Fiction in the correct chronological order without having to deal with all that pesky time jumping around that Tarantino does for some stupid reason.

From The First Avenger to Far From Home, chronological is the only way to go.

There has never been a better time to settle in and watch all 23 movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The majority of the movies are available on a streaming service you probably already have, and all but one are available to stream somewhere.

If you haven’t seen any of the movies that make up Phases I-III (plus Spider-Man: Far From Home), it can feel a little overwhelming. If you’ve only seen a handful here and there, you may not feel like you have a good grasp on the overarching story that weaves throughout the films. If you’ve seen all of them, you might be looking for a new way to enjoy the series.

That’s where chronological story order comes in.

Watching in chronological order isn’t particularly different than watching in release order, but it makes everything feel much more coherent. The two biggest changes come right out of the gate as Captain America: The First Avenger (the fifth movie released) and Captain Marvel (the 21st movie released) jump to No. 1 and 2, respectively.

So, why chronological?
Right from the get go in Captain America: The First Avenger, you’re introduced to the Tesseract (the Space Stone). It’s a major plot point for that movie specifically, but it comes back into play in Captain Marvel, and again in Thor. The continuity of the Tesseract’s journey from falling through the hull of Johann Schmidt’s aircraft to Project Pegasus to being in Nick Fury’s possession following Thor flows so perfectly.


That end-credit scene in chronological order delivers you right into The Avengers, a movie that deals with the Tesseract/Space Stone extensively.

Then you have appearances of other Infinity Stones in The Avengers (the soon-to-be found out Mind Stone) and Thor: The Dark World (the Reality Stone) before Guardians of the Galaxy lays it all out on the line for you as the Collector explains what the stones even are.

This isn’t to say you have no flexibility in chronological order, however. The first few movies are pretty set in stone as you do need to get all of the Avenger origin stories and introductions in before The Avengers. Once you finish Captain America: Civil War, you can hit the trio of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange in any order. I, for one, prefer to keep T’Challa’s storyline flowing with Black Panther, then Homecoming, then check in with Doctor Strange.

Thor: Ragnarok’s end credit scene leads right into the intense opening of Avengers: Infinity War. In release order, you’d go from Thor: Ragnarok to Black Panther before returning to the fate of the Asgardians.


Personally, I like to watch the two-movie epic of Infinity War and Endgame in one six-hour chunk. That way I can settle in and weep non-stop for six hours. Therefore, I watch Ant-Man and The Wasp before Infinity War (and just watch this end credit scene between the two epics). If you’d prefer an understandable break from the crying, you can use Ant-Man and The Wasp as a palate cleanser.

Overall, the differences between chronological and release order are subtle. Once you go chronological, though, you’ll never go back.

You missed Iron Man 3 and The Ant Man movies.

The didn't have much interest in seeing the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie when I saw the commercials. I eventually saw it on DVD and understood why it was so highly rated.

Similarly, I didn't have much interest in seeing the first Deadpool movie after seeing the commercials, but when I later watched them on DVD I had to rewind several scenes in both Deadpool movies because I was laughing so hard I missed the 30 to 60 seconds of dialogue that followed.

I guess I'm still one of the few people that liked Thor: Dark World. The scene where Heimdall runs and jumps onto one of Malekith's ships, causing it to crash, it pretty cool.

I had only seen a few of them, then I watched them in chronological order....

I liked Dr. Strange the best....

Guardians is pretty good

And oh the actor guy in Iron Man 3 was hilarious. Loved that part.

Agree with consensus here, first Guardians very good and rewatchable, second one kinda average or below.

Ant-Man was not great, imo. Michael Douglas was good but I just think the whole Ant Man idea sucks

Civil War up next

I liked GOTG vol. 2, but not as much as I liked the first one.

I also enjoyed the first Ant-Man, but my expectations weren’t that high for it.

Civil War does some great things as far as moving the entire MCU in a focused direction towards Infinity War, but there is one sequence in that movie which will always annoy me.
