What’s the downside to wearing a mask in public?
Its been posted in this thread and across the board a number of times. The mask helps prevent and slow the spread of Covid, but it also is a detriment to humanity and society. Wearing the mask helps to keep fear in the forefront of people's minds. The goalpost has been moved an in LTGesque fashion from preventing the overwhelming of hospitals, to preventing deaths, to preventing cases, to demanding that people do everything they can to protect OTHERS.

The mask has benefits, and it has detriments. To ignore either is flat out stupid, not political.

You've been reduced to trolling and parroting the thoughts of others in a feeble attempt to garner attention. Pathetic!

If I was never buddies with the general public before the mask, how does that change? Were you and JORR out making friends at the grocery store before all this?

It's not the masks, it's the culture. It's nobody's business who has masks on but the entity that established the rule. And people getting into other peoples' personal choices has been going on long before masks.

It has nothing to do with making friends at the grocery store. I don't think I'm a particularly heartless person, but if I see a masked person differently than I see an unmasked person, I guarantee there are others more cold-blooded than I am who will see each other in masks as less than human.

Everything that has happened since the lockdowns is exactly what I thought would happen. I'm not taking a bow for that either. I wish I had been wrong. But it's really obvious what is occurring and what will continue to occur.

No it doesn't. What keeps fear in people's minds is the thought they can die from something as harmless as a nasal drip. It has nothing to do with wearing masks.

If they remove masks from the equation the fear would still be there. The only way to remove the fear is if you withheld the information from the public about the severity of it.

The fear is a result of people being more informed about the disease.

Kids aren't going to wear the masks and that's why it is going to be a problem.

Do you really think that children are going to wear masks in 80-90 degree buildings? If so I have a bridge to sell you CB.

I'm with you lockdowns were devastating. I'm not when it comes to masks. I feel nothing that you feel in regards to a masked person. I felt nothing about strangers before the masks. They were just another mouse in this cage of mice. Mask or no mask.

But the teachers, adults can/should wear them. And even in a scenario where one person has been masked and the other person isn't masked, the studies have shown to significantly reduce transmission. Add into the fact that studies show children are efficient spreaders of the virus.

But I do enjoy the excuses teachers are throwing out to "NOT" do their jobs this year.

You are missing the point, spany. And its not dramatic, its truth. I personally do not fear anybody with or without a mask unless they might be coughing like crazy. Others do not feel that way. I said a mask can help and hurt. You are purposely ignoring half of what I said.

Nardi wrote:

No, but I wasn't actively avoiding people and nobody was actively avoiding me either. I shop as normal, but I definitely see more people avoiding me and others. There is little to no chit chat as well between friends or strangers which I would occasionally see.

Six months ago if I saw an old woman having trouble reaching for a product, I would grab it for her no questions asked. This would be met with a smile and a thank you, and we would go on our way. Now the old lady might feel that I may be putting her in danger by touching her box of food. Part of that is culture. Part of that is now learned since we're all masked and spoon fed fear.

I believe life is about compromise. So I'm fully onboard the mask train. Let's all wear them. They work. Now time to open up everything(schools/economy), full blast.

Answer the question, since masks are effective, we can open schools, no? Especially 202, that's rich $$$ there. You can get the best kinds of PPE.

Do you think the country is really roiling because of George Floyd? Lockdowns, masks, massive unemployment, unpaid rents/mortgages, etc. And this is just the beginning. I don't even think it's dawned on most people how bad things are going to get.

Most of this is true. The biggest problem is that the damn PRESIDENT has been acting like a lunatic and actively lying about this thing since day one. Had Trump actually acted like a true leader and told the truth, we would be in much better shape right now.

Social distancing is a detriment to society. Masks aren't. If I recall correctly, the bit was IF you can't stay 6 feet from a person, masks are required. So theoretically, you can help that old lady if you have masks on.

But what about the kids that transmit and take it home with them because they didn't where their mask?

Teachers are going to teach whether they want to or not so it's no big deal. My kids will be at home anyway so it doesn't much effect me though I know you will continue to scream it anyway.

If you want to screw around and get the shit that's fine. You don't have the right to transmit to someone else just because you believe you have a rock solid immune system. That's negligent and irresponsible.

His eyes aren't closed, but he definitely has blinders on. Schools have been closed since March, and likely won't be open as normal for at least the first half of the upcoming school year. The South and West sides of the city LTG resides in were gutted just a few weeks ago. But the second JLN posts something that might be the least bit offensive, he's there quoting and insulting.

But hey, lets rename a football team and get rid of a Christopher Columbus statue!

LTG and people like him are sweeping up bread crumbs and bragging about doing so, while the bread in the oven is actively burning.

There were states that were fully reopened and things still weren't all that great. Did you even bother to pay attention to struggles of Texas's hospitality industry when the state reppened?

Will kids fidget with the masks... take them off in frustration? Yes. But we know, statistically kids are immune to this virus, and they are not super spreaders. So the only risk comes from possibly child to teacher. You can't social distance kids, but you can certainly socially distance teacher from kids. And if a teacher needs to approach a child at close contact for help, he/she can absolutely force said child to put on said mask during that interaction. If the child refuses then she can see the administration/principal/dean. They do have the right to not approach a child in close quarters if there won't be masks worn by both parties.

So again, if masks work, what is the sorry ass excuse from teachers from not opening schools?

If I recall correctly, the bit was IF you can't stay 6 feet from a person, masks are required. So theoretically, you can help that old lady if you have masks on.
I don't disagree. But the fact that I actually touched a box of pasta that she wants to buy may scare her into not actually buying it anymore! Some (not all) people were wiping down groceries and leaving Amazon deliveries in the garage because the box MIGHT have germs on it. This wasn't even a thought in the craziest person's mind back in January.
