I've been a big fan of THE HONEYMOONERS for ages. It was a favorite of our family and I remember back in the day good old Channel 9 and later Channel 32 use to play it regularly.

So I accidentally caught it today on MeTV and now it's been absolutely ruined by PC culture.

Ralph did the BANG ZOOM TO THE MOON ALICE a few times in the episode I was watching and I just couldn't accept it. Made me cringe hard.

I've come to accept the fact that Ralph is a domestic abuser. We never have seen him physically hit Alice on screen but I'm sure it has happened.

He's also a bully - to Alice and Ed. Threatening domestic violence to Alice and always shoving Ed and calling him a mental case just makes the show un-enjoyable to me now.

I know this was considered normal behavior back in the 50s but with today's social norms the show has become unwatchable. Im not saying I'm for domestic violence or bullying, I'm not, but I'm having trouble accepting the show now. Now there are some great episodes where domestic violence or bullying is not in the act, but even watching those it's still in the back of my mind. For example, in the $99,000 episode, we feel sorry for Ralph at the end (not going to spoil it). But now, I feel good Ralph fucked up. Like he deserved it. Karma came back to kick his ass for being a abusing bully. I felt like i'm some Social Justice Warrior.

Another thing - I think these days Norton would be labelled as having some kind of mental deficiency. Maybe ADD or an anxiety disorder. I can't view Norton anymore as being a regular happy go lucky guy. Now I think he has some kind of mental handicap and his behavior is no longer funny. He needs help. But nobody is around him to help him while he is crying for it. He sleepwalks looking for 'lulu'. That right there tells you he went thru some traumtic shit in his younger life. But instead of understanding, Ralph calls him a nut. Unbelievable!

Wanted to put this out there. I guess this is like one of Beardown's radio posts but at least i'm not making up shit. just stating my views.

I'm a millennial and really enjoy watching the show with my dad.

Is Ralph's language toward Alice dated? Of course it is. But, I also understand that Ralph is an idiot and an insecure jerk. Alice stands up to his tantrums every single time. She wears the pants in the family. She's the king of the castle.

To anyone who doesn't know, Amazon Prime has many of the lost episodes available to stream! I only found this out a few months ago.

Are you sure about that?

He's probably sure of it because he doesn't know how far fetched that was on TV. That was why it was so funny. No way would my Dad ever say those kinds of things to my mother and I don't remember any of my friends dads being that way either. It was COMEDY and we all laughed at what a dope Ralph was. It was the same way when Desi went off on Lucy. When George Jefferson got pissed on "Weezy" and Red Foxx went off on Auunt Edna.

it was much more prevalent back in the 50s. There were cops who would show up at the house and if the husband explained he had to 'keep the wife in order' they'd just go home no arrest. Read up on some domestic abuse literature for the history.

ya i know Ralph exaggerated it and it wasn't a normal thing but it occured.

I think anyone around my age can tell you about their parents engaging in arguments where things got physical.

Putin heart the Redd Foxx. Everyone this side of the Moskva know it was "Aunt Esther." This why stupid Americans lose in the Vietnam.
