Well that was fun. I ditched this game and came back in the 9th.

phew.

That woulda been embarrassin'.

Kimbrel and Jeffress are not gonna get it done.

I kept saying it last year, the Reds are really something else. Theyre like the modern day Phillies of the 80s. They somehow make games really wild with their hitting.

me too. Checked out after 6 when it was 7-1. Started tuning back in when I heard Len say it was 8-5.

That was weird.

But whatever, they're 3-1.

That's all that matters in this 60 game season. Just get them how you can get them.

But they'll have to find another closer eventually.

Kimbrel can go hang out with Descalso. That was pathetic.

Kimbrel needs to earn the closer spot back. Give the chances to Wick, Ryan or Tepera for now. Or even Rex Brothers if he is healthy.

He got it done. But he didn't look to good either. Walked in a run. Almost hit Vato. And Vato hit it hard for the final out.

It's clear to me the Cubs will make the 8 team playoffs, though. Even with the shitty bullpen.

They'll be right there for being division champs. But the playoffs are a lock in my eyes.

Jefferess came in with a 1 run lead. He did not walk in a run.

I'm not anticipating great things from him this year. And while the Cubs did win, he had no command facing Ervin and Votto tattooed the lineout to Almora.

Batters figured out that if you keep the bat on your shoulder, good things happen.

Many closers have wicked stuff but can't control their pitches. I don't know why more teams don't just go up there with no intention of swinging.

edit: Actually, looking at the numbers, his strike percentage is only slightly worse and batters still swing at pitches at about the same 47% clip. Contact percentage is slightly up. XBH percentage is way up.

He has lost 3 mph off his fastball in the last 2 years, and his curveball has less speed and less vertical break. Data via brooksbaseball.net

Every single thing you can look at has gotten worse. This isn't a fluke. He has lost his stuff and his command.

I bet he is trying to pitch more carefully or more precise since he noticed his stuff has declined, and it is getting him in trouble. He can no longer challenge major league hitters with a 95 mph 4-seamer and an 85 mph curve with minimal vertical break.

Kimbrel was a move they had to take a flier on last year ( albeit an expensive one ) but he’s fucking done as a dominant closer. Shit , he was done his last year in Boston .

Yea, I wanna say Chris Sale closing out the WS was partially due to lack of confidence in Kimbrel at that point.

Dont remember exactly but i know he had a rough post season

3 walks in 4 games by the starters. That's not bad.

Heyward that pitch was literally right down the middle, dead center on the box. Swing!

Are you waiting for the pitcher to underhand it to you?
