On this day. Not good for Jorr's winning pitcher theory:

Either that or it's not good for Michael Kopech's prospects.

I should have said per rather than for. Mahomes seems like he might be a pretty good athlete.

Looked pretty good on his return. Honestly the 3rd pitch to Trout should've been a called strike 3.

His stuff was great, but it looked like he was hyperventilating on the mound.

Bulge was important to 2019 Kopech. Not the 2021. Very lunch buckety

Another 2 innings with 5 K's

His slider was unhittable tonight and his FB had a horizontal run on it that I've never seen before from him.

Maybe having a real pitching coach and a manager who was a believer in Dave Duncan's teachings is an improvement over Don the snitch Cooper.

Worth noting that Kopech is pitching entirely from the stretch this season. Still able to hit 99, but also gets some movement on his 4 seamer when he takes a little bit off of it and throws 96 instead

For me, it was about opting out. He didn't need to do that. And if he is not able to deal with emotional issues, he might be in the wrong line of work.

He was a frivolous kid and now he's Lunchbucket Joe. So if a year off is what it took, that's what it took.

It wasn’t some run of the mill emotional issue, so I’m inclined to give him a pass. Frank Thomas’ career nose dived from less.

Also helps that he opted out of a 60 game season coming off major surgery with an undefined role.

Kopech opting out did the team a favor. He gave them an additional year of team control

Never doubted his arm or his stuff. I still don't trust his head. If he proves me wrong, I'll own it and be thrilled.

It takes a good head to be moved around from bullpen to spot start to pen to spot start again with only a day's notice.

When the Sox traded for him, he was just a highly touted hard thrower. Now he is a true pitcher who has worked to improve his arsenal.

I guess that depends on what you think having a real starter available for game 3 of the A's series would have been worth. If you didn't think they had a shot at the WS anyway, sure.

Game 3 was lost due to poor managerial moves and a lack of clutch hitting.

Lack of clutch hitting, and lack of Madrigal brains.
