Im not arguing that he has to wear it or even that he should.

But, the mask argument is that it protects other people, not the person wearing it. I know you know this.

Liberal claptrap.

That's fine, but again, no one anywhere who is pro mask is saying a mask protects the wearer, so saying "the guy wearing it is protected" doesn't really work in this instance.

There are enough legitimate arguments about masks without making bad faith ones.

Well for Starbucks my logic goes as follows. I order ahead on the app . I wait to pick up so I know my drink will be ready. All I’m doing is opening the door, stand far enough away from anyone in there, tell them my name when they ask and they put the drink thru the plexiglass opening onto the counter which I then take and leave. Total time I’m in the store is about 20-30 seconds. I’m in proximity to no one while I’m in there and I don’t touch any surface. I don’t have COVID. I’m no danger to anyone. Notwithstanding the fact their previous policy of allowing the shit and piss stained homeless to set up camp in there for as long as they wanted and not say boo to them. That’s was ok but I’m carrying the Black Plague for being in there 30 seconds without a mask but practicing social distancing ? Gtfo with that shit.

You could have COVID and not know it. You probably dont but it's possible

If you didnt go within 6 feet of anyone then they shouldnt say anything

But im sure they are being advised by management to say something.

I wish DD could come up with a viable alternative to Starbucks Cafe Mocha. It's fucking awesome.

My wife had outpatient surgery today on her foot. It was done at a surgery center. No mask needed inside at all. We had to stop on the way home a walmart pharmacy and had to wear a mask. Something about that seems really crazy

pre-covid you'd have been best served wearing a mask in a nasty wally world... nothing's changed there

What does being "anti-gay" have to do with anything?

I see a lot of social media posts like the one above, or others saying it's killing them that they haven't seen their parents in months, etc. That's all self inflicted emotional pain  , you can go visit with whoever you want and if you trust they are social distancing and quarantining then it shouldn't even be a cause for concern.

People are dumbasses.

No one wants to be responsible for killing their parents or loved ones.

My oldest God children lost their great grandmother because she allowed one of her grandchildren (who worked in a covid infested hospital) to have her wedding at her house since the venue they booked canceled. She died alone in a hospital about 10 days later. Now her grandchild has to live with the guilt and looks from the rest of the family.

That's awful. I'm not gonna point fingers of blame there but I'm not talking about folks who work in hospitals with covid patients, but if you have a job where you aren't forced to interact with other people, like an NYT Opinion writer in the tweet above, there should be zero issues with you hanging out in very small groups with other people like friends and family who are also social distancing and wearing masks in public, etc.

The great-grandmother made the choice. Nobody should feel guilty.

I had a regularly scheduled doctor appointment today after a cold two weekends ago which necessitated a precautionary COVID test, negative. We talked about COVID for a good 20 minutes. Her main points were:

1. Outside activities like golfing were fine, as long as I keep moving.
2. Eating inside restaurants is a no go even now for anyone who is high risk like me.
3. The occasional quick stop at a less busy store is ok as long as I'm masked. No Saturday strolls at Costco though.
4. At this point, drive thru windows like McDonalds are ok and even a flimsy mask will be fine, but she chided me that I should be more careful about drive thrus for my weight (this was mostly in jest, I've lost 30 pounds in the last nine months, and judicious stops have been part of that).
4. Traveling to see my dad was ok as long as I took precautions (find an empty gate to sit at, wash hands after TSA, pick a seat strategically, wash hands after getting off the plane), until we get to November and the weather starts to resemble a meat packing factory. She told me to take more trips now and plan on taking mid-November through February off from going to Illinois or any place cold and less humid.
5. Flu shot as soon as available, as opposed to waiting to October. Duke is likely to set up a few drive thrus the way they have for covid testing
6. Both prescription and OTC meds and supplies are likely to have supply chain shortages in the fall and winter as cases increase around the world and manufacturing and shipping slows down. Stock up as much as your insurance company will allow, especially on the cheap stuff like Tylenol.

She's definitely worried. But she is not hysterically worried. Her advice has typically been able to be paraphrased as "stay away from where stupid people are likely to be found" which actually is a good general rule of life.

I generally agree, but for people who live in nursing homes or other facilities in person visits are not allowed.

So you can't eat inside at a restaurant for 45 min(even spaced out) but can jam yourself into a small tin can without social distancing or ventilation for 2-3 hours?

I would find a new doctor.

That is all very sound, logical advice. I hope you stay safe, and I am glad your test came back negative.

I can get food to go or eat outside. I can't teleport my dad here.

It's a matter of risk tolerance. And I am at high risk.

Plus I flew 110 flight segments in 2019. I know how to stay safe in this environment - fly Southwest and sit in the last row window, or fly American and sit in the last row of First Class where there's a partition behind my head and I can board last

This guy needs to go away.

Masks Aren't Enough: Dr. Fauci Says People Should "Probably Use Eye Shields" To Protect Against COVID-19

Americans can't seem to handle wearing masks to stop the coronavirus. Now, imagine if the CDC changed its guidelines to also call for "eye protection" like medical goggles to stop the spread of the virus (and protect your neighbor, as well as yourself).

Well, Dr. Fauci is apparently preparing to do just that.

During an interview with ABC News, Dr. Fauci said Wednesday that he may soon advise Americans to wear 'eye protection' to avoid being infected by COVID-19 as deaths along the Sun Belt climb to record highs.

"If you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it," the doctor said, before adding that it's not universally recommended, "but if you really want to be complete, you should probably use it if you can," he said.
