Doesn't comeback mean they were good before they sucked?

I would consider Soler and Giolito "breakout" players than "comeback" players. The other four finalists fit in that comeback category.

Not sure, but if it does, that Kris Bryant fellow could be a candidate soon.

He must be elated that 8 of his 16 starts have come against the Indians, Royals and Blue Jays. If only we could all be so lucky at our jobs.

New year, same Giolito.

IMU ate shit last year In This Very thread when he originally posted this, and it was shown that although Giolito had a bad start against the Twins, he shut them down twice, shut out the Astros, and shut down the Yankees.

Hardly. The splits remained significant throughout the entire year. Giolito's starts landed against a lot of awful offenses, and he took advantage of that. Look at his total stats against all other teams. It averages out to be nothing better than 'okay' even with an adequate start or 2 against a team like the Twins.

We have a full season sample size. We'll add to the sample size with this mini season.

It's the Indians again. What were they last year...a bottom 5 offense, right?

If Giolito always pitches like he did last year going forward I’d be pretty happy with that

Split discussion is dumb.

Giolito hasn't given up a run vs Cleveland since 2018.

Dominant.

7 innings. 13 Ks. 0 runs. 0 walks. 3 hits. In line for the Win.

Did exactly what he is supposed to do against a scuffling team; flat out dominate.

IMU fixes all Sox players by smack talking them. We just need him to start threads in EE and Mazara and this team won't lose another game.

I had completely forgotten that Giolito's grandfather was in Seinfeld as Susan's father

Could we find all White Sox fans quotes on the Pirates from the last few weeks and post them in here, as a running thread?

Giolito will have some clunkers, because all good/great pitchers do. My favorite pitcher of my childhood, Fergie Jenkins, routinely had 3-4 starts per year where he couldn't get out of the 4th and gave up 6-7 runs. Even in his amazing 1974 season in Texas where he had 29 complete games in 41 starts and over 320 IP, he had two games where he was knocked out in the second inning. And that was before the third round of expansion (1976).

Giolito just has to have the mentality of being able to destroy yet still cruise against 4th and 5th place teams, and shake off the occasional shitty start. McCann definitely helps with his comfort factor, and benching EE and moving Grandal to DH for Giolito's starts as long as the White Sox are in a playoff chase is a no-brainer.

Most of them are directly after posts from Cubs fans bashing the Sox for getting to beat up on the Royals and Tigers- who both have better records than the Reds and Pirates. You know, teams the Cubs get to play as well.

(as of this morning)
AL Central win% .535
NL Central win% .457

One of those numbers of FAR SUPERIOR to the other

The Pirates are easily the worst team in baseball, and may not win 18 games all year. If the Cubs don't sweep the 7 September road games in Pittsburgh, I will be highly disappointed in them.

Still does nothing to diminish Giolito. Find a bum, kill the bum with extreme prejudice.

Agreed, throwing a no-hitter is no easy task. He was cruising with like 11 pitches per inning.
