I think its a bit silly to hold McCann's Detroit years against him when he clearly has gotten way better. Is Mike Yasztremski worthless because he's a twenty-nine year old who spent five years in AA?

He's had one non Detroit season and it was his best, I think it's a bit premature to think he will keep up the career year production after 5 years as very average. And GM's will most definitely "hold his Detroit years against him"

Im just being honest, who is a James McCann rental away from anything significant? And if someone is, then they are competing and not giving up anything good.

It's good to have 2 good catchers. He has very little trade value though.

I honestly have no idea how to gauge the trade market in a season like this. Some teams may have finances so dismal they will slash payroll at any cost, the expanded playoff pool muddies things significantly and then there's this new meta where starting pitchers seem to be having less and less of an impact.

You may be underestimating this throwaway season as far as trades. Consensus is nothing will happen, but it just takes one team to not give a shit except to dump salary. They dump their own, and dump the guy they get on an expiring contract. There's several teams broke as hell.

Anything is possible, I dont see it. I just cant picture the "difference making player traded for James McCann" scenario. I could see him getting you a good bench player or maybe a decent but not great bullpen arm if some team has a catcher injury which is always possible.

But you both make good points about this season being unprecedented so who knows.

I think you are wrong. You may be honest but you are wrong on both counts. GMs will not look seriously at his Tiger years but only last year and current. He's always been a good defensive catcher and now he is in a top group of offensive catchers. Right now, teams would trade for McCann with plans to sign him for a 3-4 year deal. You may see a nice sign and trade deal coming pretty soon. As for Stroman, he isn't worth what McCann is. I don't like his durability whatsoever.

No bleeping way. McCann is a very good defensive catcher and a good offensive one to boot. He's going to get a very good contract from someone next year. There is no question about that. What will be telling is if the Sox can pull a sign and trade deal with a good team. I'd say that would be the way t go with him. Once again, this is all about next year.

That dude is nasty. Very brief minor league track record. It looks like they tried him out as a starter in 2018, but threw in the towel immediately. Then he was dominant out of the pen last year. I must admit that he wasn’t really on my radar. He’s got my full undivided attention now, though. I like what I’ve seen from Matt Foster as well.
