Better article.
https://www.mercurynews.com/marijuana-i ... tudies-say
Quote:
Heart complications
Some of the studies analyzed by the medical group found heart rhythm abnormalities, such as tachycardia and atrial fibrillation, could occur within the hour after weed containing THC is smoked. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive substance within marijuana that creates a “high.”

Tetrahydrocannabinol can also cause a faster heart rate, increase the heart’s need for oxygen, disrupt the walls of arteries and contribute to higher blood pressure while prone, according to other studies.

“Cannabis smoke contains components similar to tobacco smoke,” Page said, and studies show tobacco-like increases in carbon monoxide and tar in a weed smoker’s blood after smoking marijuana, regardless of the THC content.

Chest pain, heart attacks, heart rhythm disturbances and other serious heart conditions are associated with both tobacco and marijuana carbon monoxide intoxication, the statement said.

For anyone with existing heart disease, risks go up. Smoking weed has triggered heart attacks, a higher risk of strokes and heart failure in people with underlying heart disease, studies show.

In comparison, CBD, or cannabidiol, one of the other 80 chemicals in cannabis, does not give the “high” typically associated with THC. Nor does it appear to cause harm to the heart.

In fact, studies reviewed by the medical group showed possible links to lower blood pressure, reduced heart rate and less inflammation, which is an underlying culprit of the narrowing of the arteries that can lead to heart disease and strokes.

However, despite the hundreds of products currently being sold over the counter and online, there is only one CBD-derived product approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, the group wrote.

Nah not my thing. Not pro or Anti but I do think that people need to be aware of the side effects. I've been around a ton of it during my life and the common refrain has always been that it wasn't unhealthy for people that indulged. Other than affecting brain cells.
Just think that its important for people to know the harm in it.

Then it's bad for you.

It's OK to rationalize it. We all do. Besides, there's pros and cons to almost everything.

i'm just saying that if it was going to be bad for my heart, it probably would've done so by now.

It sounds like this article focuses on the risk from the immediate use of weed as opposed to cumulative.

How much of this is inappropriate dosing by old people with underlying conditions who don't understand THC today hits different than it did in the 70s?

I feel like this article is speaking to the 60 year old+ guy with cardiac problems letting them know it's not okay to eat half a brownie, then after 20 minutes eat the other half because you don't feel anything.

The college kid who takes a bong hit and runs out the door with a cup of coffee heading for his morning classes will be just fine.

Smoking bad for heart seems like old news.

It will be interesting to see if the smoking of marijuana goes away or significantly lessens with the other methods legally available.

In Michigan, the dispensaries have a lot of older lady customers. They initially start using CBD for their arthritis and other pains and over time graduate to vaping actual THC products.

Never heard it with weed strangely enough. Every weed smoker that I have ever been around for any length of time has always coughed from smoking it at some point.
