MAC cancelled today, sounds as if Big Ten is next to shut down this afternoon.

NFL should immediately pivot and schedule 2-3 games per week on saturdays

I don't get it. The virus has already run wild through many of these college programs. I think this is all a power play to get the kids to sign liability waivers.

SEC will play.

Would not be shocked if the SEC reaches out to the schools that they deem worthy from power conferences that cancel. Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma aren't going to just go along with a cancelled year. It would be a wild season.

I never had a good feeling about college football this year.

Liability is the one hurdle MANY universities will not be able to cross.

So far, they've been able to skirt it when it comes to injuries to players, but yeah, this is different.

And it sucks. That basically frees up 40% of my time in the fall.

This sucks. Saturday work radio being gone. I’m not surprised but I was hoping. NFL should go Saturday/Sunday for people to get more football fix. Not the same for me but is what it is.

I'm not the biggest college football fan, but I will miss those random MAC or Mountain West Conference games on a Tuesday night in November. Or those late PAC-12 games on a Saturday night.

College football, as a television phenomenon, exists at the NFL's sufferance. They could play games on Saturday at anytime and shut it down.

The NFL is not allowed to play on Friday or Saturday during college football season by law. That is only reason they do not already.

Okay, that explains some things.

I’m just saying if college is cancelled for the year it would be nice for the big nfl fans. Understand the law thing, it would just be nice if there was an accommodation made this year.

If College does not have a season then the NFL can play on Saturday.

Assuming the NFL has a season, they should absolutely do it.

They do need permission from congress to sell ads for games on Saturdays during what is normally college season. I would think that would not be hard ot do.

I think the no-NFL-on-Saturdays rule needs to go or be amended. Hell, we've deregulated everything else in broadcasting. There should be no Thursday games without coming off bye weeks, so after Thanksgiving, those become Saturday games. That conflicts with a week or two of college football. Player safety is more important; college football squats on the whole damn week now.

Disagree. Part of the reason the NFL is so popular is they do not play every day of the week.

You're disagreeing with Saturday doubleheaders in December so that we don't have these dogshit Thursday games?

I'd prefer the Thursday games went away but that will never happen. I do not want the NFL on Saturday until Army-Navy week in a normal year.

How does the economics of this work? Bloodbath not just for football programs and conference but all the other pointless sports too, eh?

Here is the thing. Cancelling a baseball program would save less than the cost of the OC at low level power 5 like U of I. You can remove every minor sport (and some of these places will try) and it still will not make a significant dent. These schools carry so much debt from building new shit all the time and saving nothing. Not to mention all of the six figure admin jobs these schools now have. I saw a tweet last week about Penn St and how they have more than tripled their athletic department administration in the last 20 years.

It is also time to stop giving coaches huge buyouts. Especially those with no leverage in the first place.
