I think the "MORE LOOTING IN CHICAGO" headlines probably have a negative effect on tourism.

Its part of Lighfoot's anti-looting initiative. If everything is out of business, what's left to loot ??

First of all, the convention center is closed. That's millions of visitors. Almost every company has a non-essential travel ban right. So you've lost all the business travel. So we are down to vacationers, who have seen the main draw looted and smashed up multiple times. I am on calls with people from all over the country who have no idea what is going on other than what they see on the news. When I talk to them it's: are you ok? What's going on in Chicago?

We are going to have more than 600 murders and thousands of shootings in the city this year. Last week there was a high profile assassination in front of high end stores in broad daylight. My friends downtown say they don't feel safe after sundown right now. They've seen every shop in their neighborhood completely destroyed multiple times now. It's ridiculous to say potential visitors are scared of their own shadow.

Tourism board slogan suggestions: Come see the boarded up Mag Mile! Chicago, maybe your favorite bar or restaurant is still in business. Shootings mostly occur in non-tourist areas. No mass looting incidents since Monday!

It is one of the top tourist attractions in Chicago and JORR says shut it down. Brilliant thinking.

Yeah, Chicago is going to be a real big destination for tourists in the immediate future. You really are a dumbfuck.

Ohhhh you're talking within the next 6-12 months. Gotcha.

In 3-5 years the tourists will be all over Navy Pier again.

Mag Mile and particularly River North were dead before the latest round of looting. It's got to be like a ghost town now.

Cuomo is begging people to come back to NY. I can't see Lightfoot doing that. I suppose it could easily happen here though. I'm not going downtown anytime soon.

My psychiatrist told me to hit up Adidas downtown to reimburse myself for some recent trauma I experienced.

Unless you work downtown why would you? Nothing is open even before they had to close for looting.

I wouldn't count on that. They're likely to be showing karate flicks to guys drinking Wild Irish Rose from bottles in paper bags at the Cadillac Palace Theater.

After a few years with no revenue it will bounce back like nothing happened!

i have to admit, i was at the Skyline Stage twice for concerts (in like 2002-03) and it was pretty nice. I remember being in basically the last row for one of them and the view was still good

That's the point. Now they are in a position where they can't save these places. Navy Pier won't be better off in a year and where are they going to get the money from to keep it a float? So many business won't survive this and I don't see how some of the public spaces or tourist attractions do.

You think things will go back to the way they were or be better within 3-5 years? I don't. I don't know that this crime will just stop either. This might be "the new normal".

Lock down harder. It's the only answer. And a national mask mandate is critical. People just love masking up to enjoy shopping, dining, and going on vacation!

Yes, they will go back to normal.

The crime has never stopped. Always been around.

It'll be a new normal if you want it to be. The rest of us will be outside enjoying life.

I'm not as optimistic as you are. I think some of these changes and issues will be permanent.

I'll be out enjoying life just not in the city. I think it's going to be that way for a lot of people.
