Come on. Nave Pier is like Fanuel Hall in Boston. It's for tourists. It has a purpous.

The Bean is great and so is Buckingham Fountain. Legit nice things that are pleasant to walk around even as a resident.

Jesus Christ. Let it go.

How many homeless piss on the Bean every night?

Recent threads here about Chicago always turn into some people saying a few negative things about the place and then certain people desperately defending their miraculous city. Makes me want to throw up.

And I get it, you grew up there. But be real, the city is an embarrassment at the moment. It's a dump. Go cry about it.

Yeah I like Ron but that post is just country dumb. You can find good and bad things about literally every city or state in America. Nothing more futile than trying to convince someone their subjective taste in desired living location is wrong.

It's not really desperate. It's just pointing out that there is more to life than hot weather and everyone knowing your name at Applebee's.

I wasn't offended. I like Chicago but I don't have any special reverence for it the way someone like dolphin does. But saying it's an embarrassment is like saying a band someone else likes sucks. It's clearly just an opinion that isn't going to convince someone who disagrees that they are wrong. Just seems like a waste of words imo

Many of the people criticizing Chicago don't live and work in the city. So their opinions are based off news clips. Also, I'm not C_Howitt_Fealz or Antartica nomadding around the world but I've been to MANY cities around the world. Like many other large metropolises Chicago is lovely city with issues. No place is perfect.

I wouldn't count on that. They're likely to be showing karate flicks to guys drinking Wild Irish Rose from bottles in paper bags at the Cadillac Palace Theater.

Most of these youngsters don't remember what the Loop and Navy Pier looked like in the late 70's and early 80's.

The "theater" district had a decidely different "culture" to it back then.

Do you think it's likely to return to that state? Will Times Square return to its 70's state as well?

This reminds me of my ex-girlfriend who came from a Lutheran family but told me that she had studied all the world religions and came to the conclusion that Lutheranism was the best/correct one.

I think it's more likely then MANY want to believe.

The city, county and state are drowning in debt.

City services cut in NY and Philly. It's just a matter of time.

It's not a bad conclusion. Kinda splits the difference between Catholicism and the rest of Protestantism, it's based in reform and questioning authority, casseroles are plentiful. I'm surprised she didn't settle on Zoroastrianism. The veneration of fire, leaving your dead to be picked away by vultures until it's time to throw their bones down a well, really pretty badass stuff.

I will just hope.

You have lived in the city your entire life. This must be painful to ponder.

But the bill is coming due for the years of kicking the can down the road.

Cognitive dissonance time is at the end.

I love the band, but I don't like their recent stuff.

That song about the family who doesn't love each other and goes to ride the Ferris wheel at Navy Pier is really shitty.

At least Chicago is still a more desirable place to live than San Francisco for now.

would it be a more valid perspective if I lived in an exurb and vacationed at Sandals resorts?

Eh, board opinion is more like 80% shithole and 20% it's a nice place. Mostly influenced on where you live.
