Yes, Tatis is a Top 5 player and will be for awhile.

But Hahn is still a great GM and has positioned the White Sox extremely well for the next 5 years.

Here's a Cubs fan acting like a Sox fan.

Great, I am not sure that is the word. I think to be great you either win a WS title or are in the hunt for something like 3-7 year.

He has done a pretty good job at identifying top 10 picks(with some misses), and Cuban talent.

I think this trade highlights their internal scouting problem.

Great work by the scouting department.

Bad work by Kenny Williams.

The White Sox will be "in the hunt for something like 3-7 years." And it may include a World Series. The White Sox are in Year 1 when it comes to being on the better side of a rebuild. And it will be a weird Year 1. I cannot expect Rick Hahn to have already won a World Series given where the team was when he started. But when looking at the White Sox now and comparing the team to the 2014/2015 Cubs and Astros...they match up extremely favorably. The Padres and Blue Jays rebuilt during the same time frame as the White Sox and you can't really say either of those teams did it better (or worse.) However, those 3 teams have all rebuilt better than the Rangers or Braves did.

Putting Eloy and Tatis in the same sentence is idiotic.

Why do you say scouting problems? That's not on scouting. That is on making a bad decision on a prospect. Scouting prospects is very difficult because it still is a crapshoot no matter how good you are. The hard part is PROJECTING what a kid will become 3-4 years down the road. It is easier with pitchers other than the possibility of injuries and to some extent mental make-up.

And why is that, pray tell? Eloy can conceivably lead the league in home runs and other power numbers for years to come. I also laughed at your comparison of anyone with Trout and projecting that player as being better than Trout. Only a very ignorant buffoon of a Cub fan would suggest that. Trout has been the best major league player for a bunch of years now. What he did early on doesn't mean shit. YOu cannot tell whether or not a young player will thrive and have great longevity. All you can do is look at their skill set and guess.

The Eloy o meter is going off like gangbusters, so phil starts this asinine thread? Hopefully he kills himself soon.

Phil knows what he's doing. He knows Tatis will never fail to get under our skin. Only a championship will change that.

Still remember that trade like it was yesterday. The media, led by Levine, gave it the thumbs up.

I didn't want Shields even if we got him for NOTHING.

Feel the same about Encarnacion. Didn't want him. Didn't care if he somehow got paid the minimum. He takes up space in a rebuilding year.

Yep.

It was giving up a lottery ticket for a bad veteran, and after they had already started their downward slide that season.

It was another instance of Kenny chasing a failed dream.

Unruinable.

The good thing is Hahn went out and replaced him. Robert. Also unruinable. And more handsome.

After a great April, the Sox quickly came back to life in May and were a mediocre ball club for the remainder of the '16 season. The day Hahn traded Tatis for Shields, the Sox had lost 17 of their last 23 games. Six months later he finally decides to start a rebuild -- trading Sale and Eaton.

It is really hard to project what a late round 19 year old kid will be. It was more luck than skill for he Padres.

Kenny's final move was Shields.

Actually, he was 17 when signed. So there was time to evaluate. SD evaluated. But that wasn't really my point. All you need is a pair of eyes. All you needed was a pair of eyes with Fulmer and also Burger.

Obviously, Hahn has cleaned things up. I smell Kenny in the Encarnacion signing. What was the point of that? We have DH's falling out of our asses.

Trade should have been voided because Preller gave the Sox phony medical records on Shields. Because the Padres were under new ownership as a favor to Selig, Reinsdorf didn't press the issue. Nobody in the industry blames Hahn or Williams for this, everyone is united in their hatred for Preller though.

Yeah, that might be the worst sports thought in the history of this board.
