You guys act like Cubs fans wanted a dynasty.

They won the World Series.

There was no guarantee that would ever happen.

Carry on.

You look at it in games.

I look at it in decades.

My Dad was born in 1928, 20 years after they ever won a Series, lived 69 years and still missed a Series win by 20 years.

I don't give a shit if they ever win another one. I want them to and I will be a real asshole about it if they do, but I saw one. I'm good.

Yup. This is the correct answer. One title gives anyone a lifetime pass.

I wanted a dynasty.

On the scoring scale I presented back in 2013 or so, the Cubs did good. Not great.

Playoff runs in 2018 and 2019 would have made it great, even with no further World Series victories.

This "I am eternally happy because I never thought it would happen to me" bullshit is tiring. Do not accept another 108 years of futility, or even 10 consecutive years of futility. The Cubs are declining right now, and something needs to change. Rebuilding works...and it is something the organization needs to have as an option over the next year or so.

If this offseason ends up being really soft for FA contracts, the Cubs have a lot of money coming off the books, so they should be a player in filling in areas of need. The Cubs have a few young players on the horizon, but not a lot.

If the offseason ends up providing normal sized contracts (or god forbid albatross type contracts) the Cubs should look to move major league talent, since clubs would likely rather trade than sign free agents.

I would totally accept another 108 years of futility because that would make me 152 years old and I saw the Cubs win the World Series.

conns and spanky are happy because the Cubs have not gone twelve consecutive years without a playoff appearance in their lifetimes.

I imagine you're hoping you have at least a couple more decades of enjoying physical and mental health, relatively anyway. Wouldn't it really be shitty for those 20+ years to be filled with extremely disappointing Cubs baseball teams...having only vague memories of enjoying the 2016 Cubs run and World Series?

Let's not go back to the Lovable Losers mentality after just 4 seasons, please.

I lean toward IMU's position on this. I wanted a dynasty based on the 100 years of futility and then the tanking that Theo put us through. Even 2016 wasn't totally satisfying, as it kind of felt the Cubs stole the series they didn't deserve to win. I wanted a juggernaut to show 2016 wasn't a fluke.

I cant imagine having this line of thinking, that sucks.

They were the best team in baseball all year and rightfully won the World Series, no fluke there.

Nope, down 3-1 to the depleted Indians and left for dead.

The Cubs lucked out for sure, but show me a Championship team in ANY major sport that doesnt get a few breaks along the way.

Agree, not saying it was luck...just that it wasn't dominating. I hate to say, I wanted a 2005-like performance.

Was it a 7 game series or 5?

I dont know if this is your deal, JB, but some fans are just seemingly never going to be happy

The depleted Indians blitzed right through the AL playoffs. Must have been ok.

The fluke was Game 3 and the Indians kid pitching the game of his life.

The long series showed who was the better team.

Not a totally self-loathing Cubs fan (e.g., Murph), but you're right.

Yeah I agree with RPB. I have never understood this line of thinking.

It was a fun year from start to finish. They came back in thrilling fashion to win the WS.

I dont give a fuck what anyone calls it, fluke, or whatever, it is a WS championship!

I thought about this a lot. Both of my grandmothers were bigger baseball fans (And both Cubs fans);then my grandfathers. One was born in 1908 and died in the early 70s and the other was born in 1918 and passed in 2010, listened to games on radio in Iowa City growing up. There was part of me who was convinced that my mom, the person who cursed me with this fandom, would pass before they won and was beginning to wonder about the chances in my life as I had hit my 40s. I’d love another one but it does feel different.
