Illinois could have had this many regions on May 8th, and half of the state would have been able to reopen safely. This could have pump Untold millions of dollars into the economy outside the Chicago metro area.

Usually there is some truth in the better late than never adage, but in this case it probably cost MANY people their jobs or business.

Indoor bars and dining shut down for Will and Kankakee counties. They will be fine and open, just operating differently.

Sounds more like Won't County to me.

Thank god they were able to trace the spread to those restaurants! That’s a HUGE breakthrough! I’m comforted that they were able to trace this horrible deadly plague to restaurants. Which ones in particular did they pinpoint the outbreak to?

The latest...you now have to wear a mask at restaurants whenever the waiter comes to your table.

This one is kind of laughable.

I'm being polite. It's at best unreasonable to have to scramble and cover your face for every little interaction in a restaurant. As I've said, I'm dealing with the mask thing because it's the only way I can actually do stuff. Fine. Whatever. That doesn't mean I'm not going to mock the real psychos.

Not sure about that. I think they probably are taking recommendations from doctors. Doctors will tell you everything is unsafe and basically if you leave the house for anything other than exercise you're at risk.

That may be part of it. But at the same time, the doctors don't seem to have the slightest idea what's going on either in this case. I stand by my "moving the goalposts" statement from earlier, though.

I'll fully admit that I haven't voted for a governor that's won since maybe Blago's second term. I may actually hate Pritzker more than any of them, though. I would actually be okay with him having a massive coronary. Or getting arrested for something. Either way.

Unless I'm actively eating or drinking something and they've snuck up on me, I've always held my mask up when interacting with restaurant staff. Seems like a reasonable thing to do, but now that I know it's all part of some secret government agenda I'm going to cough into my water glass and try to throw it directly into the server's mouth, nose, or eyes to maximize chances of disease transmission. That'll show JB.

I'm honestly a little ashamed you weren't already doing this.

Agreed, me too. Not that hard to keep your mask on till the food arrives. But, I've only been eating in casual restaurants where the interactions with employees is very limited. It'll be more difficult in more formal settings where you have more interactions though. Especially if you're in the middle of chewing/drinking when a waitress or busboy stops by.

Restaurants should limit interaction between employees and customers. They should adopt the Brazilian steakhouse method and have a signal on the table that indicates that a table is requesting a waiter. Then you have time to put a mask on before a waiter arrives.

Do you really hold up the mask like at a Masquerade ball? Is that really going to do anything?

the last few posts of this thread are hilarious to envision in my head - discretely holding up my mask up to talk to a waiter. What a life saver!

I hold up my mask (as they request at Great Clips) when they are cutting around the ears when I get a haircut.

I just wear mine and they take it off of each ear when they are cutting around them.

Holding it up is easier than having it off or leaving it around your neck while eating and then putting it back and readjusting it. Besides, if I was really was concerned about my server’s health I’d get delivery, it’s a minor thing that literally takes 3 seconds. I’ll guess no one is arresting you if your server asks how you’re doing mid-chew and you incomprehensibly mumble something.

I was just in a carryout seafood place where the cashier temporarily kicked out a woman who wasn't wearing a mask. She was very polite and mentioned the risk to the other patrons as a basis for her actions.

I'd never been there before, but they did every little thing superbly. It was a little expensive at first, but I now couldn't care less as it was damned tasty. And pretty much spotless while I waited.
