I think context is important here. If they are not already losing, I don't think he even starts that inning. It's his first outing of the year. Ross has shown that in this 60 game, 8 playoff spot structure he's willing to just toss games once they get down, especially to see guys in certain situations.

ERA for relievers is a tricky stat at best, but if IMU wants to bump his "THEO WON THE Q TRADE" thread because Jose was able to pitch two clean innings before the wheels fell off, then he can go right ahead and do so. Funny how smacking down the truth in front of a self procliamed baseball executive is dismissed as having a bad attitude.


To Chet's point, Ross's mistake was having Q out of the bullpen. Since coming out of the pen is not foreign to Chatwood over the last couple of seasons, he may have been better suited for that role. Let Q start and cover 9 outs or throw 40 pitches, then bring in Chatwood.

Of course, none of that matters I guess because neither Chatwood nor Q got any run support!

Frank, I think Ross was looking ahead to the first round of the playoffs, when Q will have to come out of the bullpen or not be on the roster. Get him some practice warming up mid game, etc. Also less stress than starting.

The problem was that he left him in for another inning. He looked good in his first inning. I went to bed after that so I didn't see what happened in the inning where he got knocked out.

I think Q starts one of the DH games in Cincinnati on Saturday, and Chatwood either goes back to the DL or goes into long relief.
