I'm going to grieve when he leaves. He's the most baseball-y baseball player in MLB. And that's special.

I am not sure he's gonna leave anymore.

Yeah, but I have to wonder if they will actually let him go. I think that right now he is a top ten at least over-all catcher in baseball and maybe top five. He's at least equal to Grandal who also is a very good one.

They also are going to have to make a tough decision on whether to trade him or not and I think that a sign and trade deal with someone should be in their thinking in order to max out the value that they get back if they decide to trade him. I doubt if there are going to be many trades in this silly season we are watching right now.

Anyway, I am a big fan of McCann and whatever happens next year, he is going to be a very rich man and it is warranted.

He dwarfs Grandal defensively. Grandal has ALWAYS struggled keeping the ball from getting by him. Literally the most important job of a catcher. For whatever reason, defensive metrics for catchers are far behind the old fashioned eye test.

Seems like a good idea to cut bait on Encarnacion after the season. Extend McCann. Platoon Grandal and Abreu between DH and 1st primarily with Grandal catching on occasion. But McCann is so good with the staff, it's hard not to have him in there more.

Mccann is an exceptional game caller. There's the circumstantial evidence of Giolito K numbers the last two games. And Giolito himself saying so.

I'd like to cut bait today. But I realize that would be problematic in the clubhouse.

Odds are McCann leaves after the year, but I can see him back as manager one day. With the way this outfit works they may use that as an incentive to get him to sign a team friendly deal.

I can see that as well. It's what a lot of franchises have been doing for years now.

2026 Three Time World Champion White Sox; Ozzie is back for his 3rd go round as manager, McCann is his bench coach

It's pretty easy to sort out the baseball lifers.

I 100% agree with this, but Ricky isn't even doing this now. How dare Jose either get a game off or go to the DH spot. I would bench EE right now

He's 30 years old and playing the best baseball of his life. That's a lot of waiting for a coach.

Let's not fetishize the guy too much. He had a great start to last year and regressed to his normal below average numbers in the second half. He'll be a 31 year old catcher with more bad tape than good. I think he will get a nice contract. Maybe the Sox offer him a qualifying offer and he takes it.

I have to keep correcting this. He had a bad JULY. A horrible July. But even so, that doesn't diminish his excellence behind the plate. He's a pitcher whisperer.

I'm not going to indulge those cubbie type thoughts. Next thing you know, Mazara will be giving a speech in game 7 of the WS* this year and we will convince ourselves he is great.

*I know its foolish because the White Sox wouldn't require a game 7 to win

I think he's a great catcher. Thought so since he's been here. The guy knows his shit back there. Calling it a cubbie thought is insulting. Insult the others who jumped on MY bandwagon, don't insult me.

McCann could be hitting .177 with a sub.600 OPS right now and he would still be invaluable to the club because of how he handles the pitching staff.

McCann’s great. This remains a blind spot for dolphin and it doesn’t quite make sense.

Yet he doesn't hit .177. He's also solid offensively. I don't know why that bothers some people.
