Why do I have a feeling that even though I'm lukewarm to the trade now that in October he's going to have a Geoff Blum moment and never have to buy a drink in this town again?

Hell no. He's a free agent after this silly season. I do not trade Lopez or almost any of their young starters for a silly season rental. This is fun stuff but in the larger picture it doesn't mean shit.

Lopez is trash. You’d be a fool not to trade him for a guy like Bauer

Id say that right now Cease is about an untouchable. The guy may end up being their best starting pitcher before this is over.

Cease isn't going anywhere

If you can get anything for Lopez do it. Happy to just never have to see him again.

If they did this, they'd have a legit chance to win it all. They have the mojo for sure. Definitely need to bolster the rotation though. As a Cubs fan, I'd rather watch the Sox then the dead ass, going nowhere fast Cubs.

This. He doesn't seem to be able to maintain the level of concentration necessary to compete at the highest level.

Why? Lopez has a lot of ability. He needs to find himself. Some guys do (Giolitto and Cease), some guys don't(Fuller). But to give him up for a guy who isn't going to play for you but for two months at most, isn't very smart as far as I am concerned.

I love Chatwood. He and his brother played for me in travel ball out here. But I want a lefty starter unless you are talking about a real STUD right handed pitcher that could could keep for 2-3 years.

He's done it before in games. Look. It is up to him to work his ass off and figure things out for himself. The guy has got excellent stuff but being able to repeat your delivery and lock in on a release point is what is necessary to make it. If he wasn't coming off of a serious injury, it'd be another matter but he is. I think that they just need to be patient and let the chips fall where they may.

I dont mind the two failed pitching prospects, Kopech and Lopez, battling it out for the five spot in the rotation next year. But this year should be about over for Rey as a starter. Get him some work out of the pen and see how that progresses for now. Its title-hunting time.

Looks like they are being aggressive. I dont know if that means they're willing to part with Vaughn, but everyone else who isn't making big contributions to the big league club right now seems on the table.

If Q is healthy, I would consider it if they can sign him for 2 or 3 years. Once again though I would not lose Lopez for a rental. The guy has legit stuff.

Come-on? Failed pitching prospects? Hardly, especially Kopech.

I am not sure what is out there to give him up in a deal. You would have to get something crazy back, like a SP and RP.

White Sox Interested In Lance Lynn, Robbie Ray, Dylan Bundy
By Mark Polishuk | August 29, 2020 at 11:11am CDT

11:11AM: The White Sox also have interest in Angels righty Dylan Bundy, Morosi tweets.

10:24AM: The White Sox are looking into the starting pitching market, with MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reporting that Rangers ace Lance Lynn is under consideration, while MLB Network’s Jon Heyman adds that Diamondbacks left-hander Robbie Ray has also been discussed (both links to Twitter).

As MLBTR’s Steve Adams and Connor Byrne recently put it, “Lynn is arguably the most coveted arm on the trade market.” The right-hander has a 1.59 ERA, 9.9 K/9, and 3.57 K/BB rate through 45 1/3 innings this season, and while advanced metrics hint at some inevitable ERA regression, those same numbers suggest Lynn is pitching at roughly the same level as he did in 2019, when he finished fifth in AL Cy Young Award voting.

Beyond only his performance this season, Lynn is under contract for an $8MM salary in 2021, which stands as a more than reasonable price if he keeps pitching this well. As big a trade chip as Lynn is, however, his pluses also make him a valuable asset to the Rangers, who are at least open to hearing offers for Lynn but maybe not likely to actually move him unless another team steps up with a big trade package.

It’s probably safe to assume that Ray is much more available, though the southpaw’s value has dramatically dropped off in the wake of a brutal start to the 2020 season. Control issues and the home run ball have plagued Ray, who has a 7.84 ERA and 31 walks over 31 innings, despite a 12.5 K/9. Despite Ray’s struggles, he has drawn interest from the Astros and other teams, with some clubs reportedly interested in deploying Ray as a reliever.

The White Sox have gotten very good results from Lucas Giolito, Dylan Cease, and Dallas Keuchel this season, but much less from a fourth/fifth starter mix that includes Gio Gonzalez, Reynaldo Lopez, and the injured Carlos Rodon. The league-wide perception, as least according to rival executives speaking with MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, is that the Pale Hose will land a starter prior to Monday’s trade deadline. The bullpen has been a strength overall, though it is short on left-handed pitchers (such as Ray) since Aaron Bummer is still on the injured list.

Acquiring Ray would be a pure short-term rental move, since he is a free agent after the year. Prying Lynn away from Texas would cost the Sox quite a bit more in prospect capital, though it’s worth noting that the White Sox and Rangers have been rather frequent trading partners since Rick Hahn became Chicago’s general manager. The White Sox are firmly in the playoff race this year and plan to be contenders for the foreseeable future, so Lynn is the type of pitcher that would also boost their chances of winning in 2021.

Yeah. I don't know either. It would have to be an elite starter and one with 2-3 years left on his contract or a sign and trade deal. I'd trade Madrigal and almost anyone else before Vaughn. Guys like him are a team's middle of the order thumper.

Another consideration, however what position is in Eloy's future? 1B? That might be in the back of the minds of the White Sox going forward also?

Oh give me a break. The guy quit on a world series contender, he's a mental midget. No way he can hack it in this league.

I too am pretty vehemently opposed to dealing Vaughn unless it nets us a true number one stud to pair with Giolito for the next two years.

There's not a lot of chance Vaughn is as good with the bat as Eloy. There's almost no way he'll be as good as Abreu. But if he can be the third best power hitter on the team that's awfully good and makes the lineup even more of a nightmare.

Not really interested in Lance Lynn. We are looking for a guy to make one start to win us a game and Lance Lynn is really no better for that than Cease or Keuchel. In an MLB with four team playoffs in each league and a hundred and sixty-two game season then Lynn is immensely valuable, but I just dont see him as a playoff bulldog. I'd still trade for him but no way does he necessitate giving up Vaughn or even Madrigal.

Now if they can get Bundy or Woodruff that's maybe a different story. Still not going to lose Vaughn for those guys though. No way.

Bauer would really be perfect but the Reds are going for it, so just move on from that idea.

Maybe. You might be right. Neither of us really knows, though. What I know is that this guy has an arm that less than 1% of all major league pitchers have had in the history of baseball. That is an amazing God given thing. He is unproven. Physically and mentally. Maybe it is maturity. Maybe it is really a mental issue and they can work with him on that? All that I know is that the Sox are sure not going to give up on a number one prospect who throws the kind of shit that he does

The White Sox will make the playoffs, at worst as a #7 seed. You are setting up for the playoffs.

They need a guy with experience both starting and in long relief, because in the playoffs he has to be able to come out of the bullpen in Game 1 or 2 of each series. That profiles to an arb-eligible guy like Mike Montgomery, who unfortunately is hurt.

You aren't giving up much for that type of player. Mendick and a Winston-Salem starter would probably do it.
