Can we break this story down for a minute? Let's think about it.

This person was so enraged that he (or she - I lose track) felt the need to go kill a white person that they went to the local Auto Zone (probably a good choice based on the odds) and, in their rage, asked if they had a thermostat.

What if they had a thermostat?

Kinda sounds like this was just a murderous asshole with no real motivation other than being crazy.

Because he's probably trying to act natural by asking a question one would ask at Autozone? You seem to be gleaning a whole lot from one flippant comment while ignoring what he told police and investigators.

But whatever, this is exactly how the pendulum swings the other direction.
