Always loved the old Georgetown/St. Johns games with him and Lou. Seemed like a really good dude, and was a really good basketball coach. RIP indeed.

Will the casket have a folded towel draped over it?

Don't remember him ever having a white guy as a starter during his time at Georgetown. Only scrubs at mop up time.

I respected him. Didn't always agree with what he was doing.

I think at some point after his national championship he used the team as an extension of his own social views, never recruiting white kids and dressing the team in what looked to me like african inspired patterns, despite playing on one of the lilliest white campuses in the country. This seemed to really jump Georgetown's visibility in the african american community, where being a fan of them was like a social statement. Unfortunately, I don't think it changed the demographics of the campus all that much, for which they are now paying a price.

I thought he put his faith into practice as a Roman Catholic at a Roman Catholic school. He seemed to be both a moral and spiritual voice.

I thought he was older than 78. he seemed to be losing it mentally over the last few years. He just didn't seem as sharp

Only a bronze medal '88 Olympics with a team that was favored to win it.

Didn’t he have some fall from grave scandal? Seemed like an asshole in the Bob Knight way.

Was a huge fan of those post Ewing Hoya teams. Probably would of been a fan of that team too but was just a year or two too young I think.

Michael Graham was a beast on the title team. Probably the only kid Thompson regretted losing.

Interesting story about MG:

Every basketball fan in the country knew who he was.

Never saw that story, thanks. If he stuck around they kill Villanova. The now worst, luckiest game in history.

He helped make the Big East, and by extension, ESPN. Introducing rivalries only seen in college football before that.

It seemed like all those coaches had Big East in their blood. They grew up in the Big East market, played for Big East schools and then coached Big East schools for decades.
