I've actually wondered about this for over 25 years now. Never understood why black people would practice Christianity and worship Jesus when that religion was literally forced upon them by slavery.

Now, in the middle of cancel culture, why is no one talking about that?

We're in the middle of a period of time where anything that references slavery or the confederacy is being cancelled. Even the words "auction" and "owner" are being removed from fantasy and real sports because of the connection those words have to slavery. Yet no one is coming for the ultimate racist, Jesus?

In the past 500 years has there been a partner more complicit in the oppression of black people than Christianity?

Why is Jesus/christianity off limits when that religion did way more damage to black people than Christopher Columbus ever did?

the color of Jesus' skin has nothing to do with this topic. It's the actions of the religion he started.

Haven't done extensive research

The supposed anti-racists out there sure love debating the finer points of Jesus' skin tone. "Was he black enough to be considered black?" "How light skinned do you have to be to be white?" """"OLIVE SKIN""""

You dont realize the people you would've fit in best with throughout history are quack race scholars enlisted by a certain German regime between the years 1933-45.

Yes

And Jesus is usually depicted in the color/and or ethnicity of the country that he is portrayed in.

Christianity has sort of been cancelled by academia.

And Nietzsche, but at least he's interesting and cool.

because Jesus preached truth to the downtrodden and that truth still always seems to ring true to those on the fringes 2,000 years later

There are so many fallacies in your reasoning and you pose such loaded questions that the topic in the way you've framed it is too misrepresented and ignorant to address. If I had to, I would start by saying your implicit main premise is false that black people have no free will and no choice whether to practice Christianity. No one is forcing them do anything as far as religion. You go on to conflate the confederacy with Christianity to assign guilt by association. As for your accusation of Jesus being the "ultimate racist", you do know that he spoke to the Samaritan woman, which was taboo? What do you think race meant to Jesus, when he healed the sick, the blind and lepers? The last two questions are just false dogma.

so you're saying that Christianity was not used as one of the main tools to enslave the continent of Africa? Was the priest who accompanied all the colonizers just there for fun?

You weren't talking about Africa in your original post. You were talking about the United States and the Confederacy and cancelling Jesus here. Black people have not been in slavery in this country since the Civil War, so 155 years ago. But if someone were to misuse Christianity as a front in another country, as you claim, then it wouldn't be true Christianity, would it?

where do you think the slaves came from?

And when they got here, do you think they were allowed to practice the religion they grew up with?
